If you fancy a really small torch, the Blackwater Kite is astonishing. It's tiny, USB rechargeable, and puts out (what I'd say was a genuine) 140 lumens. The basic model is well-finished aluminium. For rather more money you can get it in stainless steel or even titanium.

I have an handful of the torch sharkmark linked to that I've bought from places like gearbest, banggood and ebay. For less than £2 each they're great value, take a single AA so convenient and focus from flood to spot in the same way as this Lenser.

If spending this sort of money try and get a Thrunite TN12.

Or the Astrolux S1 is about £22.

Are you going to post pointless comments on every deal?

If you clicked through to the Amazon deal it would tell you that the deal was for a set of RAM.

As for here, if you've never compared a LED Lenser to a cheapy torch, I would suggest you test what this £26 torch, demands its price for.

apart from it using AAA batteries and having unregulated output. I.e. it starts off bright and gets dimmer. regulated lights maintain set brightness levels.

personally, I'd steer clear and get something like a Nitecore MT2A. IMHO.

I have one of these and it's brilliant.... I also have five of these.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QKG7EKC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 and for the money they are amazing. The P7.2 is bigger and stronger beam but the smaller Chinese rip offs are very good to keep in car or as spares.

Hot deal for original torch, my comment is intended to give people alternatives or additional torches. They come from China so take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

So I guess the x 60 qty 4/5 Star reviewers on Amazon have all got it wrong ... .?

Also independent reviews say it's a good value, multi function / mode torch for the money paid.

https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/3eaflp/thorfire_c8s_review/

There are £5 knock off / copies around, but if you get a genuine Thorfire, ( which you will more than likely do ordering via Amazon) then the purchaser won't be disappointed ( just as the ~ 60 Amazon reviewers who purchased one weren't).

So please move on and troll somewhere else !

at this price these are not to bad a buy. they are no bargain though. For people who can't cope with 18650 batteries though they are probably the way to go. Be aware though that in torch terms these are years out of date and very unsophisticated.
rok263 to presterjohn71

Agreed, I have a LED Lenser T7, and a more modern sophisticated Torch, the plus point on the Lenser is the adjustable beam, but modern torches have many more modes, most have a recessed mode button which allow the torch to sit on its tail, ( I can't do that with my Lenser which is the main reason why I replaced it) Many modern LED torches will outperform LED Lensers light / lumen capabilities. However for the currently discounted price, OP's post however is very good value for a Lenser product.
rob5110
26 Jan 16 1 #34
Hi, not OP, but was just checked out that torch you suggested, but Fakespot thinks it's most likely to be full of fake reviews. The 60 purchasers you mentioned were quite likely to have been given the torches in exchange for 5* reviews.
http://fakespot.com/product/thorfire-c8s-led-torch-flashlight-cree-xm-l2-led-torch-best-c8-light-ever-for-cycling-biking-camping-hiking-hunting

I wouldn't trust those reviews TBH.
It might be good, but I think the OP is better (albeit £10 more).

Troll comments. Thorfire are a decent brand and the C8 along with Convoy's C8 torch are way better torches than the P7.2 for half the money.
rok263
26 Jan 16 #38
There a clearly a number of reviews on Amazon where the torch has been provided free or at a discount for a review to be posted. However, most clearly state that, so I don't consider those fake, and there are clearly others that are reviews from genuine purchasers. That said, I own a Thorfire C8S torch, I have had it for 6 months, used on a daily basis, it's been dropped from height, got wet, been knocked about and it's still going strong and it's as solid and capable as the day I purchased it. It has outperformed ( in Lumens / Brightness / Modes) the LED Lenser T7 that it replaced. The only thing I miss from the Lenser is the adjustable beam, other than that it is in my opinion a more than adequate LED torch for everyday use. It does require an 18650 rechargeable battery, and that will not be to everyones taste / preference.

A lot of people have heard of Lenser (a bit like the old Maglite) but times have moved on, personally I prefer one like the Crelant V6CS. Extremely well made, fully regulated, 1x18650 (or 3xAAA), Waterproof and has infinitely variable brightness adjust from 0 to full brightness. Oh and £10 less than the Lenser. Oh and 710 Lumen (ISO). Oh and has candle mode and hidden strobe/SOS modes.

Agreed. I've not tested it, but I'd be surprised if it can really manage 30 minutes at full blast.

The low mode is 10 lumens - still quite usable for most "nearby" situations and it should certainly last several hours on that.

You could always carry a spare battery, it takes 10180 lithium ion batteries which are pretty cheap.

If you want something good in the £10-20 range I would go with a Convoy. You can buy direct from them on Aliexpress so no worries of fakery. Look for Simon's store, Shenzhen Convoy Ltd.

Fakery is a huge problem with flashlights. There are many Chinese brand flashlights that are well-made, but as soon as they become popular, they are immediately cloned. Even Cree LEDs themselves are being cloned.

Lol, "genuine" and "Amazon" in the same sentence. Amazon are well known for marketplace sellers selling fakes, that particular torch is being sold only by marketplace sellers based in China, and even Amazon have been known to sell fakes themselves (just look at the 1* reviews for this LED Lenser) - but at least it's not difficult to get your money back.

Personally i use the Olight SR52 torch and it is great for walking my dogs in thetford forest .
Lights up the whole track for hundreds of metres ahead.(1200 lumens and 588m beam)
USB rechargeable as well but does cost around £160 so depends what you want to pay and what you need it for.
Use mine every night autumn/winter so well worth it.

And don't believe the lumen output of some of the cheap and nasty efforts from ebay etc .

I was just about to say the same thing myself. These people that receive stuff for free or heavily discounted are very unlikely to provide a 1 star review because they'll be blacklisted for future free stuff! Interesting point you've made here. I bought one for £47.87 October 2014 (more fool me price wise) but I thought it was brilliant. Saved me a few times. I have noticed recently though that it doesn't maintain its brightness, like you say.

Is this a battery problem? (I use B&M manager special duracell)

Is it age, or something else like the bulb?.

How does this not 'having unregulated output' work is it all to do with the batteries depleting.

Also why are AAA batteries a problem? aren't they just smaller than AA so making the device lighter/smaller?

I live in the country so I rely very heavily on this sort of thing (its very dark at night here!).

Thanks in advance.

Could you provide a link for Simon's Shenzhen Convoy Ltd store, for the life of me I can't find it, looked everywhere on aliexpress.

Are they relocating - http://ru.aliexpress.com/store/330416 ? I can wait till they have moved as they are trusted.

Also is the C8 the one to go out of the C8, S3 & S2+ and which are the best batteries for this model? (I used amazon prime)

"Based on what I've been told it looks like the battery supplied direct by Amazon was a fake"

From reply to comment further down "I bought it from Amazon themselves. As you say lots of counterfeits out there which is why I avoided marketplace sellers - not that I'm saying they are all dodgy!

I assumed that buying from Amazon themselves it would be genuine."
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/RLUY01ZE81NM7/ref=cm_cr_pr_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B003NJVY14

The clue in the LED lenser it was Amazon who sold the fake is that they said they contacted Amazon who refunded them. They don't refund marketplace purchases.

Amazon HAVE and DO sell fakes. But at least it's easy to get a refund off them.
Speculator
27 Jan 16 #89
They do refund marketplace purchases via their A to Z guarantee.
Also, if it's fulfilled by Amazon, they will refund normally and treat it like a normal Amazon purchase.
Newbold
27 Jan 16 #90
We're still talking about rather circumstantial evidence here, I think - particularly given that Amazon will refund on a Marketplace item if it proves to be fake.

It may theoretically be possible to get a fake direct from Amazon - but the chances of that happening are probably lower than getting one from John Lewis, and of all the online retailers around Amazon are in about the best possible position to deal only with reputable suppliers and check out what they get.

He's closed for a few days so just check back when he reopens.

You can buy Convoy from other places incl Banggood and Gearbest but fake Convoys exist so imo it's safer to buy from Simon.

Regarding which to buy, a lot of it comes down to preference etc but you're best to go to a dedicated flashlight discussion and they could go into depth on the differences.
