That's not really my point Darksaber, nobody's questioning what you do, how good at it you might be, or whether or not your style of camping is better or worse than any other type. I just wondered why you think that anyone who chooses to stop at a convenient heated wooden wigwam, in a nice area, perhaps with their families, must be deluded into thinking that they are roughing-it SAS style?
For the record, I do many different types of camping and I enjoy them all, but I don't look down my nose at someone doing something different or make automatic assumptions about how they think.

I hope you're at least Para trained if you're putting pictures up like this or it would be a bit misleading trying to let people presume you're a Para once they see the maroon lid. If not, and judging by the RLC cap badge, as an attached rank the most arduous fitness you would have done is with an 11kg bergan at 15 minute mile pace which my 6 year old daughter could manage to do backwards in flipflops.

You must have had a good time machine to have left in 2005 and then transferred to the Parachute Regiment in 2007! Some of your lingo doesn't sound right for someone who's (allegedly) a Para and why the hell would someone who is Parachute Regiment be putting up photos of RLC and AGC cap badges (which by the way is on the first page of google images when you google 16 Air Assault Bde). Dates don't match up, lingo is all wrong, using google images....I smell a walt!

So for a weekend is it £88 with the surcharge. I've seen mid range hotels that offer a weekend at that price.

Highly recommended, the NDAC is a very friendly place. These are the 'basic' pods, not the luxury ones. Luxury pods have ensuite facilities.

The downside is you can't have campfires with the luxury pods, the basic ones have their own firepits

FOD is a beautiful place - one of the UK best off road cycling circuits nearby and many other attractions .. cant comment about the accomodation though as never tried it

Years ago I lived on the edge of the Forest of Dean for a year. I was cycling through the woods one day and a fully grown stag suddenly emerged from the trees and ran alongside me for a few seconds.. I realised later I was lucky it didn't knock me over. Was an amazing experience.
I found some Forest of Dean people to be a tad unfriendly..

looks like "wooden wigwam" is basically marketing speak for a luxury wooden shed

Its not really situated in the Forest of Dean, the forest is probably a 20-30min drive away. Its not too far away, also Tintern Abbey and the Wye valley is close, which is beautiful.
I take that back it is technically classed as the Forest of Dean.

Let's just say it's very much on the outskirts.

If this means that I don't have to erect our ridiculous 10 man tent again this year I'm in...
