That's not really my point Darksaber, nobody's questioning what you do, how good at it you might be, or whether or not your style of camping is better or worse than any other type. I just wondered why you think that anyone who chooses to stop at a convenient heated wooden wigwam, in a nice area, perhaps with their families, must be deluded into thinking that they are roughing-it SAS style?

For the record, I do many different types of camping and I enjoy them all, but I don't look down my nose at someone doing something different or make automatic assumptions about how they think.

I hope you're at least Para trained if you're putting pictures up like this or it would be a bit misleading trying to let people presume you're a Para once they see the maroon lid. If not, and judging by the RLC cap badge, as an attached rank the most arduous fitness you would have done is with an 11kg bergan at 15 minute mile pace which my 6 year old daughter could manage to do backwards in flipflops.

You must have had a good time machine to have left in 2005 and then transferred to the Parachute Regiment in 2007! Some of your lingo doesn't sound right for someone who's (allegedly) a Para and why the hell would someone who is Parachute Regiment be putting up photos of RLC and AGC cap badges (which by the way is on the first page of google images when you google 16 Air Assault Bde). Dates don't match up, lingo is all wrong, using google images....I smell a walt!

I don't usually break OPSEC, especially on a deals thread but just for context I'm a serving Sergeant and I've been in for 13 years. I was in Iraq n 2004 and nearly everyone had digital cameras, I don't even remember seeing a squaddie an old film type camera there. All of my army buddies who were serving pre 2000 and only had printed photos have scanned all of their old photos so they do have digital copies of them as I constantly have them popping up on my news feed on FB so if you had served all that time like you said then you'd be like all the other old soldiers who'd have scanned copies.

No ex or serving soldier in their right mind would post a photo of a different cap badge to their own to make a point about their service. ESPECIALLY Parachute Regiment, a Para would rather put photos up of Mr Blobby than a photo of RLC and AGC cap badges and pertain that it's their own. Literally would never get that from an ex Para.

No one who has served in Iraq would ever say "trying to keep the lid on Basra from boiling over" especially as the Parachute Regt were only there on the Initial invasion in 2003 and their purpose was to invade and get into Basra not "stop it from boiling over". If you'd been in 3rd Bn Parachute Regt after 2007 you'd have been serving in Afghanistan.......not Iraq.

Now the subtle points that I wasn't going to reveal but I'm going to have to now. The only people that would refer to P Coy as Pre parachute selection would be people who read Wikipedia for their info. If you'd served 16 years in the Cheshires, you'd have transferred over to the Mercians.

The Paras would never take you on after 16 years service whether or not you'd done P Coy. Transferees have to go through Para Depot to be taken on by Reg not just complete P Coy, that's for their Officers. No one I mean NO ONE who has served in 16 AA Bde would refer to it as "the 16th Air Assault Brigade" and don't try and hide behind a typo, you don't put a "th" on by accident. Also, 3rd Bn the Parachute Regt would refer to themselves as 3 Para. An ex Para wouldn't say "i used to be chauffeured around in Lynx and Chinook helicopters" it would be a C130, no Para would care or be proud that they had been in a helicopter.

The list of subtleties goes on and on and on, and any one of those would set alarm bells ringing, and with me it did. It seems like you either did a few years a long time ago, or you were TA so have a little bit of knowledge but not enough to stop a serving soldier from catching you out.

Also, you might not want to put your photobucket link on the pictures that you borrowed from Google.

http://s188.photobucket.com/user/darksaber35/media/_47062987_garrison_snow_soldiers_766_zpscwkztjcf.jpg.html

As not only does it show, and let anyone see, these photos that you posted. But also that you're into military figurines which is a typical profile of a military walter mitty, or walt.

But also photos of Swasticas and racist photos such as this

http://s188.photobucket.com/user/darksaber35/media/black_and_white_minstrel_show.jpg.html?sort=3&o=94 and this http://s188.photobucket.com/user/darksaber35/media/swazlarge.jpg.html?sort=3&o=55

Also shows that your OPSEC (operational security) is ****, which again wouldn't happen with most soldiers.

Do you need me to go on?

Listen captain birds eye ,if you ever you noticed any of my posts i tend to make typing mistakes as some smart **** already commented and sometimes that includes numbers.
Funnily enough i don't have any digital photos pre 2005 like most people because i simply did not have a camera back then as they where pretty expensive or awful.IF you had ever done any service you would of known that troops get ferried between different barracks all the time to use training faculties that other basses lack.

Anyway Im sorry if i hurt your feelings about the arm chair general remark as it has obviously struck a cord with you so i will let you say what ever you want if it really makes you feel better. I know i was training at Whittington Barracks doing my phase 1 training outside lichfeild which served as a depot for the Prince of Wales' Division back 91 before i joined my home county regiment based at Chester and went on from there.

If you want to carry then we can always talk on ****.COM as i know plenty of the guys on there who acutely know what there talking about and put some service in.

Darksaber you seem to be avoiding the topic that you're talking bul&*$t about your service if you ever did serve at all. You're certainly not ex Parachute Regiment, as I said before none of your lingo adds up, as in it looks lie you got all of your information from Wikipedia. Your dates are wrong, and you're photos that you have used can easily be found on the first page of Googe images when you search 16 Air assault Bde.

I'm not going to go into detail about all of the subtle things I've picked up on as it will only help you to tailor your lies for the future and make your story more believable. If you want to try and prove you did what you say, then inbox me your Regimental number and I'll have the necessary checks carried out for your successful completion of Pre parachute selection, and your jumps course at No 1 PTS. I'll also inbox you mine if you'd like to check my history.

If you want to save yourself the embarrassment, stop spinning these lies and making condescending comments to people about glamping as you are making the rest of us, who actually are serving soldiers, look like a bunch of pr!

I'm also a forester and much prefer things like the cycle centre, go ape, beechenhurst than to sell large swathes of our forest to centre parks or heaven forbid, to fracking companies. It needs to be managed correctly and they're doing an ok job at the moment. Let's hope they don't get too greedy.

I'm a Forester. I grew up with and were good mates with two of EMF. RIP Zac.

This is situated outside on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean to be pedantic. But the beautiful Forest and Wye Valley is on the doorstep. Just wish the Forestry Commision hadn't let so many contractors in over recent years. After I returned from living away for many years I couldn't believe how they have allowed them to run riot. Thinned it out and erased parts of it like never be before.

Probably because the people you're meeting aren't in the services at all! Darksaber certainly wasn't a Para and probably wasn't in the Army at all. You might have met a few genuine soldiers who do have a chip on their shoulder but they're bad eggs and certainly aren't common. Or maybe you just keep meeting people who make up stories about their "service" and insist on pushing their make believe world down your throat :disappointed:

Well personally i left inter regiment rivalry for the arm chair generals like yourself, as long as the men and women who i used to serve beside did there jobs without me having to molly coddle them I did not give a hoot which unit they served with, i met plenty of good soldiers in the stabs (army slang for - Stupid TA **** ) for instance .

I joined the army back in 1991 at the age of 19y with the Cheshire regiment as a rifleman and as you mite put it flipflopped between the Persian gulf and the Balkans gaining a few Operational Service and Campaign Medals just like the rest of the guys and girls who i used to serve with.

Then when the Cheshire regiment got the chop in 2007 i wanted to join the 16th assault brigade and did my Pre-Parachute Selection course and then went into the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment.I then left in 2005 after doing one tour trying to keep the lid on Basra from boiling over.

Well as i used to serve with the 16 Air Assault Brigade and the guys in there 20's who had just joined up had obviously spent more time jelling there hair and shaving the nut sacks than doing anything remotely exhausting as they where always lagging behind us veteran's who where 15+ years older and suffering from back injures and other army career wounds.

So if the guys in there 20's in the army cant hack it im more than certain your average Joe blogs on the streets is even worse.Anyway maybe these places are not such a bad thing as it will keep the fools off the mountains and avoid wasting the time and money of the rescue services.

As to my high horse i used to be chauffeured around in Lynx and Chinook helicopters from the Army Air Corps so had a very soft life im afraid.

No thanks , maybe when im retired ,too old and decrepid to go wild camping i mite consider it.Until then i will enjoy the national parks of England and Hong Kong to there fullest without having to put up with people staying on a camp sites like this one thinking there roughing it.

But im sure most guys these days even younger than me by 20 years could not hack carrying a 15kg pack and climbing and walking miles up hills and mountains without keeling over in the first 10 minutes from exhaustion. So im sure these sheds will do for the average person who only ever brakes into a sweat when there in the comfort of a cushy fitness studio.
