Saw a poster in window of Manchester Princess St (by town hall) branch stating this there wasn't a time or date on it so must be anytime.

Be careful, Starbucks also pay their taxes, which includes VAT and employers NI contributions. They simply lawfully organise their affairs to minimise corporation tax in similar way many people do when putting money in an ISA, or contributing to a pension, or giving to charity.
I do not agree with the lawful manipulation of tax. But, it is the government that sets tax rules, blame them and not the corporations whose job is to maximise shareholder returns.
(N.B. I do not go to Starbucks, nor do I support their tax stance).

let me ask you a question. IF you pay tax (im assuming that you do!?) and you found a way around not paying it, and it was lawful, would you pay it?

Pret a manger have been doing filter coffee at this price this for years. In fact it's cheaper at 99p. And better than Starbucks. And they pay their tax.

This is very misleading. The tax affairs of Starbucks are designed to be complicated, so that they pay very little tax., there is no comparison between people using ISAs or giving to charity. If only it were that simple, it would be very easy then to force them to pay up.

In Starbucks I always buy a small filter coffee; you get free refills. It’s not advertised anywhere and sometimes the staff don’t know about it either…. They have to confirm it with the manager!

Britain is one of the biggest facilitators of tax avoidance in Europe. If the government simplified the tax rules to close loopholes companies couldn't make use of them to lower their tax obligations.

bought a filter coffee in Starbucks Cambridge last weekend, me thinking it's a coffee shop it would be a nice fresh filter coffee, nope I got a large mug of day long simmered boiled water with a hint of old coffee, It made me feel sick on the 2nd mouthful so I took back and ordered a real coffee, I have a bean to cup machine at home so maybe too used to decent fresh coffee.

I really enjoy good espresso, but there's no reason filter coffee should taste any worse. The thing is not to leave it simmering all day long . Just read some of the decent reviews of the Aeropress (like http://www.coffeereview.com/the-aeropress-coffee-maker-2/).

if this happens they will make fresh filter coffee for you or should give you an americano free, for speed (takes 5-10 mins for coffee to filter). Starbucks are all about making people happy.
