i would say the things going for this is
price - its right at the bottom of the price range for a usable spec
the spec itself - all things considered its very usable, screen is decent enough for size (yes we get 1080p etc on phones but the panel makes a difference and tbh, past a point at this size i dont see the difference (point in case i think i prefer my 720p redmi 3 to 1080p moto x play)
very hackable - sideloading, google play, CM, kodi, all possible
community support - asolutely rammed with support on all corners of the net
warranty - both amazon and JL are very good in the CS front and so you've pretty much got 2 year no quibble return and replace should something go wrong. im not sure you'd get the same with a linx etc
im considering picking one up myself. will i use it over my ipad mini 2 in most cases? nope. but then i'd use it differently. use cases would be taking to the gym, using as a portable hard drive with the sd card. taking it on journeys / trips where i wouldnt want to risk the ipad.
everyone has their price point to use / benefit.
if its not for you thats OK. But hopefully people can see it does the job for some.

Linx 7 is about £10-£20 more and you do get full windows on it. But the battery life is only 3 hours! As mentioned, I want a tablet for when I travel, so 3 hours is **** (as you like to put it), so the Kindle Fire 7 is perfect for me.
For someone who is so opinionated and dead certain that there are better deals/tablets out there, why not post them here on HUKD and share it with the community?

Great for the kids, so easy and simple to use. Better than wasting a fortune on an iPad that wouldn't last any longer with them. Just stick it in a decent case.

Couldn't agree more. If I had the money to burn, for sure I'd buy an ipad, but the Kindle Fire is perfect for me needs. Also anyone after a cheap case, ebay is your best bet. Picked a slim case for £4.99 and it fits perfectly into my Eastpak mini messenger bag I use whenever I travel.

I've had the pleasure of playing with my Kindle Fire over the weekend as I travelled to London and I have to say it's the best £40 purchase I've made.
Loaded up the micro SD card with movies, and after watching for 6 hours non stop the battery was only down to 48%. Granted I had the wifi turned off and screen was at 50%. Talking about the screen, it's very good for a small cheap tablet and the screen is very very bright! Even turning brightness down to 0% I was able to see what was on the screen.
Only negative thing I would say is that it can be slow at times. Can take an extra 1 - 2 second to load an app or media compared to a smart phone, but even this would not put me off using it.
Would definitely recommend especially at this price. I love my kindle fire!

I've not got mine yet, but I'm sure there's a settings option that allows you to choose whether or not to have wifi turn off when screen turns off?
Depends on what you want/need. So you want me to buy a more expensive device with an OS I hate, yea, that sounds perfect LOL Yes I know I could install Linux on it, but instead of bothering I could just get a cheaper device that already runs Android (witch is fine for anything I'll need on the go). I don't believe the UK opted out of it, just haven't written it into UK law. Possibly because SOGA allows up to 6 years to make a claim. The 1 or 2 year guarantees can be thought of like a claim without the fight. SOGA means fighting and possibly Small Claims.

Had to APK Firefox. Updating can simply be installing the latest APK. Installing an APK involves copying a file over and clicking it. There'll be stuff you can't get from Android, mainly paid for stuff, but that's same with any OS. There's stuff on iOS that you can't get on Android. Doesn't mean Android is terrible because not all developers choose to support it.

No point commenting. The guy is adamant that the Kindle Fire 7 is crap. He doesn't understand that someone else's needs are different to his. For me it's perfect. I only need a simple tablet (no fancy apps) and this does everything I want it to and has 7 hours battery life, which is what I need when I travel. So yes I might watch a movie or YouTube for more than 3 hours. If I wanted something more powerful I would just use my laptop. Would probably last the same time as the Linx 7, but least it has a physical keyboard.

I completely agree that there are plenty of other tablets on the market that's far superior then the Kindle Fire, but some people, like myself, may be looking for a cheap tablet. Something that does the basics, like read books, browse the internet, listen to music and load movies. I'll only be using this when I travel. Plus if I break or lose it, I wouldn't be so concerned. For £40 I think it's a great tablet for what I need it for. But for someone who has the money to splash or needs a better spec tablet, then this deal isn't for you.
