i would say the things going for this is

price - its right at the bottom of the price range for a usable spec
the spec itself - all things considered its very usable, screen is decent enough for size (yes we get 1080p etc on phones but the panel makes a difference and tbh, past a point at this size i dont see the difference (point in case i think i prefer my 720p redmi 3 to 1080p moto x play)
very hackable - sideloading, google play, CM, kodi, all possible
community support - asolutely rammed with support on all corners of the net
warranty - both amazon and JL are very good in the CS front and so you've pretty much got 2 year no quibble return and replace should something go wrong. im not sure you'd get the same with a linx etc

im considering picking one up myself. will i use it over my ipad mini 2 in most cases? nope. but then i'd use it differently. use cases would be taking to the gym, using as a portable hard drive with the sd card. taking it on journeys / trips where i wouldnt want to risk the ipad.

everyone has their price point to use / benefit.

if its not for you thats OK. But hopefully people can see it does the job for some.

Linx 7 is about £10-£20 more and you do get full windows on it. But the battery life is only 3 hours! As mentioned, I want a tablet for when I travel, so 3 hours is **** (as you like to put it), so the Kindle Fire 7 is perfect for me.

For someone who is so opinionated and dead certain that there are better deals/tablets out there, why not post them here on HUKD and share it with the community?

Straight swap at John Lewis should it be faulty (but in otherwise good cosmetic condition) ...always handy to keep the box for that uncertainty, adds to appearance of care.

Depends what you want it for. If you want to play the latest 3d games then no, it's not right for you. If you are using it for light usage then it's a steal. I use mine for a home automation remote control and it works fine.

Remember too that the Consumer Rights Act also covers purchases for 6 years in England. Wherby if you can prove the fault was inherent in the product (ie - there from time of manufacture) then the product is covered for 6 years

First of all its not bad as a deal its alright to vote hot but the device itself is ****..
Why not look at the linx series with full windows? I bet you can get atleast linx 7 for that price or you might catch a deal for linx 8.
Both devices are superior to this because its full windows and other benefits ehich I'm too lazy to explain.
Its not like everyone is an idiot they just are clueless about this stuff.. And companies tend to use it against you. Just like samsung with there overpriced peace of crap...

Why do people keep asking about installing Android on this machines? :/

People should check links/instore and know by now it doesn't run it unless you root it/sideload google store to run android apps.

It's not hard people. :/

It does run Android it's just an Amazon front end and reason ppl ask is to REPLACE the Amazon gubbins & go stock. Nothing wrong with that it's not like asking if you can put android on an ipad ffs

I completely agree that there are plenty of other tablets on the market that's far superior then the Kindle Fire, but some people, like myself, may be looking for a cheap tablet. Something that does the basics, like read books, browse the internet, listen to music and load movies. I'll only be using this when I travel. Plus if I break or lose it, I wouldn't be so concerned. For £40 I think it's a great tablet for what I need it for. But for someone who has the money to splash or needs a better spec tablet, then this deal isn't for you.

Well because you should know how it works with deals you can't get them anytime you want it.. You just missed linx 7 and linx 8 for £40..

Be careful if you want to install the Play store on these. I think the last OS update from Amazon patched some permission hole or something the installer was using.

I bought one before Christmas and use it every day on the train but it would be much less useful with only the Amazon store
gxbdhx
10 Feb 16 #34
£10 more and yeah you missed those deals.. Maybe ebay? You might get it for that much if you work a little. You can't expect to get a deal any time you desire..
Even if there isn't any moment and you can't wait just get some used/refurbished full android tablet for that much or even less of ebay..
Yes 3 hours of watching youtube video.. I mean c'mon.. :/
Plus its windows turn off everything you dont need and it will last long enough..
Of course that tablet will last 7 hours because all you gona have is a browser since it doesnt even have play store and you'll be stuck without apps...

Fire 7 is only perfect for amazon to sell and promote stuff..
NitrousUK
10 Feb 16 #35
You do get apps, the selection browseable via the Amazon App store. Which included almost all the ones I had on my Android phone. About 17/20 apps I use. Majority of other android apps can be loaded by simply clicking the APK files.

Fire 7 is also perfect if you're invested in the Amazon ecosystem .
gxbdhx
10 Feb 16 #37
Yeah.. well its 17/20 only in your case.. When it comes to .apk files you wont get any updates.. And I doubt you can legaly buy it and transfer it to kindle(dunno about legal stuff here).

What's the radio It's not 4;3 and also with stock android can you get all the on demand apps what's battery life
chaos86
10 Feb 16 2 #39
No point commenting. The guy is adamant that the Kindle Fire 7 is crap. He doesn't understand that someone else's needs are different to his. For me it's perfect. I only need a simple tablet (no fancy apps) and this does everything I want it to and has 7 hours battery life, which is what I need when I travel. So yes I might watch a movie or YouTube for more than 3 hours. If I wanted something more powerful I would just use my laptop. Would probably last the same time as the Linx 7, but least it has a physical keyboard.

VLC, Viber, Met Office, Evernote, ES File Explorer, eBay, Wunderlist, Facebook, Google Maps, Pocket, Skype, CCleaner, Trainline, Airbnb, Speedtest, Natwest, Whatsapp, Rightmove, SoundCloud, Droid Scan Lite..
Had to APK Firefox. Updating can simply be installing the latest APK. Installing an APK involves copying a file over and clicking it. There'll be stuff you can't get from Android, mainly paid for stuff, but that's same with any OS. There's stuff on iOS that you can't get on Android. Doesn't mean Android is terrible because not all developers choose to support it.

I don't believe the UK opted out of it, just haven't written it into UK law. Possibly because SOGA allows up to 6 years to make a claim. The 1 or 2 year guarantees can be thought of like a claim without the fight. SOGA means fighting and possibly Small Claims.

Depends on what you want/need.
So you want me to buy a more expensive device with an OS I hate, yea, that sounds perfect LOL Yes I know I could install Linux on it, but instead of bothering I could just get a cheaper device that already runs Android (witch is fine for anything I'll need on the go).
Interesting you are so adamant about people being clueless when you are clearly too thick to realise different people have different wants and needs!

I've had the pleasure of playing with my Kindle Fire over the weekend as I travelled to London and I have to say it's the best £40 purchase I've made.

Loaded up the micro SD card with movies, and after watching for 6 hours non stop the battery was only down to 48%. Granted I had the wifi turned off and screen was at 50%. Talking about the screen, it's very good for a small cheap tablet and the screen is very very bright! Even turning brightness down to 0% I was able to see what was on the screen.

Only negative thing I would say is that it can be slow at times. Can take an extra 1 - 2 second to load an app or media compared to a smart phone, but even this would not put me off using it.

Would definitely recommend especially at this price. I love my kindle fire!
