It's a high margin product, yes, but that means little. What about their overheads? The effective cost of these is most certainly greater than 5p

Not all of that profit goes into the pockets of the owners though. Much of it was spent on plastering yellow and black vinyl all over the escalators of our local tube-station turning what was once and anonymous conduit of commuting into nightmarish journey through an inverted wasp. A few weeks later the escalators were closed while they peeled it all off again. Trudging up the stairs in the rush-hour I certainly had a few thoughts about Gillette, so who says advertising doesn't work?
