It's a high margin product, yes, but that means little. What about their overheads? The effective cost of these is most certainly greater than 5p

And what are we meant to do with that pointless useless information ? Tell asda we are only going to pay £0.40p for them?

You must be new to our planet. Welcome to capitalism.
Not all of that profit goes into the pockets of the owners though. Much of it was spent on plastering yellow and black vinyl all over the escalators of our local tube-station turning what was once and anonymous conduit of commuting into nightmarish journey through an inverted wasp. A few weeks later the escalators were closed while they peeled it all off again. Trudging up the stairs in the rush-hour I certainly had a few thoughts about Gillette, so who says advertising doesn't work?

I continue raising this point that even though it was posted last week, I didn't know as I'm sure others didn't and by you posting again gives me the heads up. Thanks OP
Jeez I wish I had the time to see every post as it comes through.

Thanks for posting, didn't see last week's!
Good deal as these are stupidly expensive when at full price!

The cheapest way to avail of these Gillette products is to open the packet and have a shave in-store. Then wipe the razor on your jeans, and place back in the packet.
Gillette still make money when said razor is bought by someone else, and you end up cleanly shaved whilst saving money on expensive grooming products. Allowing you to invest in a 10 pac of Bic razors for twenty pence.

I use an edwin jagger handle and astra superior blades. the handle is a bit of an outlay but you can try cheaper ones. the blades will last forever. I bought a pack of 100 and they have lasted for over 2 years (not joking) and changing blades every 3/4 shaves. you get much less irritation because there are fewer blades pulling on your hair and your blade is sharper because you change them more often.
Switched a few years back myself. Not only do I no longer get irritation I save money too.

If the blades last forever then why did you buy 100 of them?

Overheads. Like paying celebrities millions to advertise them? There are cheaper alternatives. Those arguing that they are paying a premium for quality, Gillette razors are actually not the best quality for wetshaving. So my argument is that this product should never be considered a hot deal in the same way that branded printer ink can never be considered a hot deal, when there are cheaper alternatives of the same quality.

You're making many different arguments here. Yes there are cheaper alternatives, and I never said anything about quality. In fact, I would suggest that they give you a rather poor quality shave - you can't beat shaving with a DE razor in the traditional way (though Gilette make some very good DE blades!).
It seems that what you're saying is that you will never vote this type of deal hot because you don't agree with this type of business model - it's the old saying of 'Give 'em the razor, sell 'em the blades', the exact same applies to printer inks (sell a loss making printer, gain revenues on the inks) and many video games consoles. I don't think there is anything wrong with that point of view...just don't buy them, but that doesn't mean it is not a 'deal'. This is a 'deal' because those that do buy them can now do so at a cheaper price

I use normal shaving gel and a brush. Best shave ever and that is coming from someone who used to suffer from very severe razor burn......
