Just booked for my other half's dad to come down from Warrington on the Sunday before Christmas, cheapest fare by a country mile as we only invited him last night. Also, he'll think he is special as it's a 1st class ticket. Winner.

Be very careful. Some 'seat sale' tickets are more expensive than advance tickets, and 'seat sale' prices do not attract railcard discounts either.

There's a OP who knows the big rail companies Hype and bull**** on so called discount tickets

Booked and great prices direct from Shrewsbury to London, in effect a free upgrade to 1st class. Wouldn't let me change the seat at the point of booking on the outbound leg, so either I got the last 1st class seat or you get what they allocate...either way it will be fine. Thanks OP

great..got the email but already booked tickets a week before for standard non refundable tickets which would have cost the same as first class...:disappointed:
