Right. So you're using a very heavy "modern" web browser (http://lifehacker.com/why-chrome-uses-so-much-freaking-ram-1702537477) that's designed for desktop use, and are trying to use it as a benchmark for a device that's a tablet.
Let's take this slowly:
*This is a tablet.
*It has the ability to drop into desktop mode and run normal desktop apps. This doesn't mean it's a good idea.
*Chrome is designed for the desktop, and has RAM usage to suit this environment.
*Chrome does not have a release that is suitable for the tablet mode in Windows 10 (it's not even on the store). Google have not released one. This is exactly the same as Chrome on Android being a different build to Chrome on the desktop. Would you also complain about the desktop version of Chrome not working on a 1GB Android device?
*There are other browsers that are designed to work in a lower RAM environment. Microsoft Edge is one, but there are others.
You can keep waiting for screenshots. It's not like you can't Google for reviews of these 1GB tablets, almost any variant will do....they will all tell you how suitable they are for browsing, Skype, Youtube and the like, but not a lot more.
Seriously, there is so much you could complain about with a Windows 10 tablet: The need for anti-virus due to it being a true PC, a really lacking apps store, or that occasionally a Windows update will get in the way of you using it....but you insist on picking a non-issue that multiple people in this thread are telling you works fine.
All on a £30 device. Madness.

You use Chrome as a benchmark? soon as I read that your comment is null and void. Then you go on about memory with pages open, and word and excel and music streaming... if you got all that open then its not the tablet that's the issue, its the user using a device for something its not designed for. And you comment about grass on other side... I bet your turf costs more than £29. Suggest you jog on before your comments look even more silly.

Love all these people who quote 1GB and it must be garbage. Keep telling yourself that while the rest of the world gets on just fine with Windows 10 and 1GB.

1GB and Windows 10 (free upgrade) is perfectly sufficient for web browsing, music, video playback, skype and so on....
It's 30 quid!!! We couldn't have dreamt about doing this only a few years ago.
SSD will be about 50% full, based on experience from previous 32GB tablets. That's still plenty for almost every application you could ever wish to run on this tablet. Office, skype, web browser, VLC....and so on will all easy fit in that space.

Was looking at buying a usb, slide-show picture frame but as this is so much cheaper, would this work instead? The tablet won't be used for anything else, so I'm assuming only 1 GB ram would suffice.

I have the Linx 7 and it is a great machine but just a little too small for a windows device like this - 8" just about cuts the mustard.
BTW 1GB RAM works surprisingly well - especially with a Win 10 upgrade.
