I have it saving to a mounted share to a 32gb USB stick plugged into my router Asus RT68U. Although you could just save to the default onboard Micro SD card. I've had it configured to send me a email each time it detected movement, but turned this off as the front of my house is busy (cul-de-sac) and squirrels / cats / birds.
It's pretty flawless. Easy to setup via web interface and I've had it running over a few month without even a reboot.

I use Motion Pie on 2 Pi's (one with this camera module, one with Pi NoIR) to stream to Surevillance Station on my Synology NAS. Motion Pie is simple to set up and I find it really reliable.
If you like to tinker it's great fun. I also added a 16G SD card and just have a cron job to remove any videos that are >30 days old. So have a rolling 30 days worth of footage.

I was thinking about monitoring with motion sensor that shoots footage only if there is movement in a room, which will be uploaded to the cloud server. just have to figure out how to do it hehe.

Do you need to install Raspbian on the SD card as a starting point?
