I just bought this last week (after scouting for the cheapest price) for £379 at Peter Tyson which was already a great deal - it's an award winning AV Reciever. Today it's in the Richer Sounds deal for £299! Too late for me :( but a great deal for someone else!

Take it you don't rate their world class pianos then either?
I bought this Pioneer last week after lots of research, what this has over the Sony (and the Denon 2200) is multizone output on the HDMI which the Sony and Denon can only mirror its dual HDMI output. Also I don't think the Sony can't pass through a HDMI signal when in standby which the Pioneer does. Any more questions ask as I've been using it quite a bit recently.

I compared both for a long time, along with onkyo and denon. These beats the Sony on lots of levels, the main thing for me was 4K up-scalling which the Sony doesn't do. I wanted to pass component through for Nintendo Wii which pioneer will upscale, Sony won't. There were lots of other benefits the Pioneer has too, and I thought it offered better sound too. I also wanted multiple hdmi outs so I could feed more than one zone. I did LOTS of research before buying, and for the money (even at £379) this was the best I could find that ticked all the boxes.

Ps the Sony isn't Dolby Atmos either, which was also a showstopper for me - I really wanted Atmos ready

you'll not be able to use the Atmos feature as well as the multizone out, its one or the other at this price point.

This or wait until the Denon 2200 comes down in price.

So does the Denon beat the Pioneer too?

The denon is similar spec, that was my shortlisted two, but at 499 I can't see it dropping to 299 - plus it didn't have enough channels for what I needed, the pioneer edged it on the specs

Only downside to this deal is that its 'in store' only, you might be lucky to find one. Shame as its a very good amp with plenty of HDMI inputs

I posted a deal a few weeks back on the denon 2200
For £399 with creative audio they will probably still do it at that price if you phone them up.

How does this compare to the Sony STRDN1060? I have been waiting for Sony to update to support ATMOS...
