I just bought this last week (after scouting for the cheapest price) for £379 at Peter Tyson which was already a great deal - it's an award winning AV Reciever. Today it's in the Richer Sounds deal for £299! Too late for me :( but a great deal for someone else!

Take it you don't rate their world class pianos then either?
I bought this Pioneer last week after lots of research, what this has over the Sony (and the Denon 2200) is multizone output on the HDMI which the Sony and Denon can only mirror its dual HDMI output. Also I don't think the Sony can't pass through a HDMI signal when in standby which the Pioneer does. Any more questions ask as I've been using it quite a bit recently.

I compared both for a long time, along with onkyo and denon. These beats the Sony on lots of levels, the main thing for me was 4K up-scalling which the Sony doesn't do. I wanted to pass component through for Nintendo Wii which pioneer will upscale, Sony won't. There were lots of other benefits the Pioneer has too, and I thought it offered better sound too. I also wanted multiple hdmi outs so I could feed more than one zone. I did LOTS of research before buying, and for the money (even at £379) this was the best I could find that ticked all the boxes.

Ps the Sony isn't Dolby Atmos either, which was also a showstopper for me - I really wanted Atmos ready

you'll not be able to use the Atmos feature as well as the multizone out, its one or the other at this price point.

This or wait until the Denon 2200 comes down in price.

So does the Denon beat the Pioneer too?

The denon is similar spec, that was my shortlisted two, but at 499 I can't see it dropping to 299 - plus it didn't have enough channels for what I needed, the pioneer edged it on the specs

Only downside to this deal is that its 'in store' only, you might be lucky to find one. Shame as its a very good amp with plenty of HDMI inputs

I posted a deal a few weeks back on the denon 2200
For £399 with creative audio they will probably still do it at that price if you phone them up.

I only purchased this from richer sounds 5 days ago at the price of £399,I wonder if they will refund the difference,I've got 7 days to return it but they are now shut until Boxing Day and then I'm over the 7 days to return it.

I purchased an av receiver from Richer Sounds in late November. Called customer services & they said 7 days only but put me through to the Romford store who said 28 days. Returned it yesterday for a full refund (including the 6 year insurance) with no problems at all. My advice is to ring the store. My item was still factory sealed though.
Atmos is an extra two+ channels that you put in the ceiling pointing down. You'd have sound such as a helicopter flying above sound like it is flying above your head rather than around it.

Can anyone help me? I was looking at the DENON AVRX520BT. The main thing I want to be able to do is play my ripped blu-ray movies with HD audio & eventually be able to upgrade to 4K Ultra blurays without having to upgrade my receiver. I need hdcp 2.2 as well (had to return the Sony STRDH550 as it doesn't have HDCP 2.2 connections). Is it worth me spending the extra £120 on a £300 av receiver like this one? What would be the main advantages? Is there something missing from the Denon that will cause me to want to upgrade again in a couple of years?

So you can have the surround back speaker (Speaker's), Or the Atmos speakers running off the internal amp, But not both, Was wondering why it was only showing 7 amps in the specs, That's a deal breaker for me then, Not even got low level outputs for the Atmos to work with a separate amp.
Still a hot price for what you get, But would rather pay a bit more and go the full hog.

Hi guys. Can anyone recommend speakers to go with this reciever? Maximum budget is about £1300 all in.
ideally not too bulky and big. My plan B is a sonos bar, 2 play 1 and sub setup if that helps with the advice.
Thanks

Zool....You are right, if you call Creative Audio and ask for Black Friday deal, they will do it.
Tygar2...I have Denon 2200 with cambridge audio speakers (minx 22 and 301 subwoofer), and Onkyo upfiring Atmos speakers...cost me 1300 in total from Richer sound (lot of bargianing done)...

Apart from the upward firing speakers which I guess need to be atmos ready, do they have to be atmos specific speakers can I use my current speakers?

Any speakers will work, the Dolby Atmos speakers are for people who are unable to ceiling mount. Dolby Atmos speakers have a speaker facing at an upwards angle on top of the speakers, in theory this is supposed to bounce off the ceiling and give the effect that the sound is coming from above.
I don't know how well the Dolby Atmos speakers will work though in the real world, I would expect it to be quite difficult to get the right positioning to make the effect work in most living rooms. Similar issue with sound bars, that claim a surround sound effect from a single source. Ceiling mounting would be much better sound wise.

Apparently the Sony STR-DN860 is better if you don't need atmos
I think he was getting confused with yamaha amps lol.

It didn't do lots of the things I needed from an AV that the Pioneer did, depend what you want to do with it I guess. I wanted 4K upscaling, Dolby atmos, multi-room outs and plenty of hdmis (and with hdcp 2.2) the 860 didn't do a lot of the 'current' and future tech stuff I wanted so I thought would date quickly
Is this better than the Onkyo TXNR646 which is now £349? I've done some basic research and can't really decide

Richer Sounds have a special deal from today with the first 100 buyers of any Atmos receiver getting a free surround sound mix of Russ Abbot's Atmosphere.

How does this compare to the YAMAHA RXV679, which is currently reduced from £449 to £349 at Richer Sounds?
When speaking to the guys at Richer Sounds earlier this week whilst doing some research, they recommended the Yamaha as the best av reciever within the price range.

The RXV679 is £50 more expensive, gets worse reviews and less spec; it doesn't have multiple hdmi outs, no atmos, no DTS:X etc.

The Denon AVR-X2200W is now £379 at Sevenoaks. Would the Pioneer be good enough or is it worth spending £80 more and get the Denon? Denon AVR-X2200W

How does this compare to the Sony STRDN1060? I have been waiting for Sony to update to support ATMOS...
