How easy would it be to stick this in my kids Alienware X51 R2?
He's bitching and moaning that its not quick enough?

Quick enough how? The system itself or games? Or both?
Could be RAM you need.

Depends which power supply it has. Iirc there's a 240 and a 330, the latter being required for most cards. If it's the latter, the 970 is probably a much better bet, in terms of future-proofing.
Any idea what's in it now? Mine's got a 660 in it, which is realistically coming to the end of its capabilities with modern games. I'm led to believe that the 960 isn't that much of a jump from the 660.
For useful advice, I'd suggest a wander over to the alienware user forums. There's a ton of info on there about upgrading your graphics card. Hope that helps.

There are various youtube videos of people giving walkthroughs. So watch them first. And not quick enough how? the games? Then this gpu will help with all current games. Otherwise an ssd and removal of bloatware will improve performance everywhere else ten-fold

Buying alienware was your first mistake.
These cards are not that quick 7970s are faster than these. 970 is the min you want or hell be moaning again.

I'm not sure. He used to play all sorts of games but now reckons it cant even run simple games. I know its got an i5 processor and that's about it. Maybe it needs a disk clean up or something like that.

That sounds odd, should run games just fine, if not on high settings anymore. Sounds like a faulty part or a virus
