I have had a very bad experience of Homeserve. I had 3 Homeserve plumbers attend an emergency that I had and not one managed to sort the problem. When I complained to the company they then started fobbing us off with excuses.
I ended up fixing the problem myself! I, as a non-professional Home DIYer, had more knowledge than these so-called Homeserve "Plumbers". I eventually ditched the insurance. No more !
Before you take out any policy with this company, I suggest you do some research !
Here's some interesting stuff (including dubious business practices):
whats that got to do with the deal?
does that make it a bad deal, just cancel after year 1 simple

When you ring to cancel they will try and keep you as a customer.
I ended up staying for another year at £3 per month.(zero excess)
As for their service.. It's a mixed bag.
I have called them out many times.
My upstairs toilet pipe getting blocked all the time.
First few times they came and jetted it clear but it was happening every few weeks or so.
I got on the phone after third or fourth time and asked them to do a proper repair because it's the same problem every time.
They sent 2 vans and stuck a camera down the drain and found it had collapsed.
Dug up the garden and repaired it.
All was well for a bit then same problem. Called them again and they stuck the camera down again.
This time they found that when the drain collapsed a chunk of clay drain pipe had worked its way down the soil pipe.
He broke it up and flushed it through.
Been a year or so.. No problems.
All for 50p a month!.
I thought it would be rude of me not to renew.
Overall I am extremely pleased with their service.
If they had dropped the camera down on first or second visit it would saved a lot of hassle

Yup I agree. Had the full cover with them which covers heating, plumbing, electrics etc. Had an issue with bathroom lights not working, paid the £50 call out charge and the electrician brings up some baloney about the bathroom lights not being wired in line with the newest BS standards and refusing to do the job. Wasted my 50 quid and called out an independent electrician who immediately pinpointed the problem to a blown transformer to the bulbs, an hour and £80 later and all repaired and working fine.
On looking at the finer print, it appears they had changed their electrical reg requirements on homes for their electrical cover to be valid, in mid-2014. Previously the requirement had been that the electrical installation should be in line with standards applicable to the property WHEN BUILT, they had then changed it so that any fault's repairable only if the installation complies with the latest BS standards that are applicable to NEW homes. So, any property built before 1987 when the newest regs were introduced are ineligible for electrical cover under Homeserve. You couldn't make it up.
The engineer who did the actual repair told me this is one of those arsey get-out clauses,.in fact the regulating body will issue an electrical safety certificate for any property so long as the installation complied with regs in place at the time but this is not enough for Homeserve!
Buy their comprehensive cover at your peril, you've been warned.
Not sure about the plumbing cover as I've never used them for that.

I have had similar problems with them - booked this earlier this year fir £6 - had standing water under my suspended ground floor - took 6 months and god knows how many visits for them before they admitted there was a problem and repaired it.
I had "clean water" engineers out, "dirty water" engineers out - then told it was just ground water table and the smell was a dead rodent that had found its way in - then I took all my decking up as they said the water must be getting in through a hole in the house wall below ground level - then united utilities out (three times)- back to clean water / dirty water etc for months - finally they "spotted" that somehow the drain outside had shifted off the pipe below and repaired it...6 months of horrible foul smelling stagnant dirty water !

Ok...I am simply pointing out that this company can't deal with emergencies that matter. eg. Boiler problem, Heating problems, plumbing issues.
The money that I paid for the insurance was a loss to me as they never fixed the problem which I ended up dealing with myself!
I would not even give them a penny !
It is ultimately up to you if you wish to deal with this company - I am simply pointing out the problems a lot of people have encountered when dealing with Homeserve.
