Wouldn't bother with a compressor in this country myself but if you feel then need then this seems good value.

Why?Works fine as long as temp doesnt get very low.Which in a house shouldn't.Also I find the dessicant ones unreliable after only a few months.Slightly noisier on start up compressor though.

But "low energy" just means it doesn't extract water as quickly - it says nothing about the efficiency (£ per litre).

I bought this about 2 year ago 2nd hand and cheap. and its worked brilliantly. yes it is quiet and seems to do a very good job. heat from me.

I second this, our fancy dessicant one didn't last two years. I've been using a generic Chinese compressor dehumidifier and while it makes lots of noise and can consume 300W on the highest setting, it's lasted at least a good 7 years of use and does the job just fine.

If you have the house at normal temp should be fine, no good for lower temps.

Does his also cool the air temperature, while dehumidfying?
Or does it just suck out the water from the air?

It will raise the air temperature slightly.
We have this model... use it mainly for drying clothes. It really is a good model, we were amazed by how much water is collects in such a short space of time

The price has gone up a lot though.
There is some debate about the pros & cons of different types but I'm very happy with the one that I got.
