So, John lewis seem to be price matching more and more at the moment including promotions. This could mean the Black Friday might get a bit tasty, especially on TVs and such... JLs 5 year guarantee is awesome on top of price matching, so you can't go wrong really.
Really decent price for this set, awesome reviews and imho Sony have really good built in speakers on loads of their TVs in comparison to others, right out of the box. That said, i am sure a lot of you would add your own amplifiers and sound systems anyway. But still £279 is a belter of a price :)

The Sony R4 is quite simply, a great 40-inch Full HD TV. With HDD recording and a USB media player, you’ll be able to watch what you want at a time which suits. And thanks to a clear resolution enhancer, the picture quality boasts refined details for an even more immersive viewing experience.
Clear resolution enhancer -
Reducing noise and imperfections is Sony’s clear resolution enhancer. This great feature makes images sharper and more natural, delivering a clear difference compared to standard LED TVs. Contrast has also been improved which adds more depth and realism to what you see on the screen.
Slim design -
The elegant and slim design of the 40” screen joins form and function beautifully to blend seamlessly into its surroundings, even when mounted on the wall.
USB HDD recording -
With the Sony R4 you’ll never miss your favourite TV programmes again because you can record them, and watch at a more convenient time for you and your family. Simply programme your TV to record your preferred show with an easy connection of a USB hard drive.
USB media player
With the USB media player, you’ll be able to enjoy all your favourite music, videos and photographs with easy playback. And thanks to Digital Noise Reduction, your media sources, including the PC input, can benefit from the same advanced image processing techniques that are given to cable, satellite and broadcast signals.
Smooth motion -
With Motionflow XR 100Hz, every image on the screen refreshes at a higher rate than normal. Sports and fast-moving action look noticeably smoother, sharper and more natural, with reduced blur and judder.

Black friday TVs usually suck. They are not real deals but TVs made specifically for black friday. Get a TV that has good reviews.

Black Friday should be called Blaupunkt Friday.
That's what will be flogged off to the underclasses.

I contacted JL at the weekend about buying a TV now and whether they'll honour any deal on Black Friday. They said that the normal price match will apply.
So I ordered myself this for £279: Samsung UE40J5100. In my opinion it looked better than the Sony side-by-side. Just my 2p's.

I have been looking at this all morning. Tempted but worried Black Friday may throw up a better price or model. Does anyone know if I bought this now and it were to be reduced in BF - would JL refund the difference?

They had this TV in John Lewis in Cambridge yesterday on clearance for £239. Really wasn't sold on the picture quality. Only had 1 and it was ex display, but I've been looking at this TV for a while and it didn't look that great. May have had something to do with how they'd set it up though. Might be worth seeing one running first

Same price in currys too. Without the 5 yr guarantee obviously. Think I'll wait a bit longer

Thanks for that. I think I have been holding off as I know it's a budget model. The model up at £379 is the one I would prefer. This site makes you so aware of better prices it makes it harder to just go for it!

So many Great tv deals, but what do I do with my old ones? They're still current, Freeview, HD and plenty of HDMI sockets etc.
Think I'll wait till more channels use 4K before I invest in an upgrade
