So, John lewis seem to be price matching more and more at the moment including promotions. This could mean the Black Friday might get a bit tasty, especially on TVs and such... JLs 5 year guarantee is awesome on top of price matching, so you can't go wrong really.
Really decent price for this set, awesome reviews and imho Sony have really good built in speakers on loads of their TVs in comparison to others, right out of the box. That said, i am sure a lot of you would add your own amplifiers and sound systems anyway. But still £279 is a belter of a price :)

Got this TV now and it's brilliant, but having some trouble with it.
Firstly, when on HDMI 2 (Fire TV) i'm unable to get the sound menu up using the TV remote so I can't change the sound settings. When watching anything voices are really quiet where as action is very loud but I can't get to the sound settings to do anything about it...
Secondly, I have the TV connected via ethernet cable to my router but I'm getting 'Internet Connection: Failed' showing under network settings. It's getting an IP via DHCP and i've tried putting it on a static with DNS 2 set as 8.8.8.8 but still no internet connection.
Got an email back from JL and there is more stock coming within next 2 weeks.

Not off hand the R453(2015) is a replacement for the R450(2013). I'm guessing the main thing is that they have improved the viewing angles. Then just the normal things you would expect. It will use less power, the contrast will be better and the picture processing will be a bit better. The main gripe with the R450 was poor viewing angles but it doesn't look to be an issue this time round.

This won't be helpful but they are both a good a buy as each other. The Sony has USB record and is slightly thinner but unless you highly value those things these two are the same specs wise. It's the look of the displayed image that comes down to personal preference. For me the Samsung screen displays a nicer image than the Sony.

Bought SONY 3 years ago, never again. They didn't update youtube player app so SMART TV is no longer SMART...
hcc27 to ElectricalStorm
25 Nov 151#52
This is actually more common than you think. TV manufacturers have no incentive to keep updating their apps to be compatible with updated API's from the app owners since they advertise improved smart services on their new line of TVs as the new USP. All they want to do is to get you to buy their new TVs.
A better solution is to add smart functionality via a 3rd party dongle, e.g. Fire Stick, Chromecast etc. These will have app updates for years, and once they stop all you need to do is spend less than 30 quid on the upgraded version - far cheaper than upgrading your TV.

I worked in electrical retail for a good few years and we would purposely set up the more expensive tv's with better cabling, inputs/media and settings. You can never judge the picture you see in stores. It's crap from a consumers perspective but true. When it comes to Samsung, in my time in the industry, they had a higher return rate than any other brand. I've always found their colours to be too unnatural also. However, haven't worked in the industry for 5 years now, and electronics move fast. My opinion would be to buy Sony or Panasonic for overall performance and quality.

Richer Sounds are fantastic on their guarantees. A couple of years back I had a stereo that broke down just after the 12 month guarantee period had passed, they exchanged it for a new one no questions asked. Their 6 year guarantee for HiFi and TVs is usually a 10% add-on to the purchase price, and they actually refund this 10% during the last month of the extended warrant (though you have to make a request). I notice they're now offering the extended warranty as standard on many of their items.
I'd say their customer service is superior to that of John Lewis.
