Edit, actually it is quite easy to resist. To really enjoy it you need the subwoofer as well. Sounds rather gutless/hollow without.

It does not sound hollow without the sub. I've been using just a sound bar for the last 12 months and the sound is amazing for tv and music. Obviously the sub will enhance this but I would definitely recommend a play bar if you are thinking of going down the Sonos route. Remember the play bar also can be used as a stand alone speaker too.
