I've got a car from these at the minute and had no issues.

Almost all of these deals will allow you to simply reduce or do away with the up front payment in return for a higher monthly rental of you prefer. The finance cost of that is also very very small in all the quotes I had, so could never see the point in paying anything up front.

Bear in mind that it's the Ed4 engine, so front-wheel drive only. I personally wouldn't want to drive a land rover without an all wheel drive, but I have to admit the price is pretty good.

We have the SD4 - approx. £40k - and its now 4 years old. Parkers private sale price is approx. £25k - so 37.5% depreciation in 4 years is very good retention values. They are not being discounted, and still in high demand, hence good retention.

The lease is on the ED4 - which start at about £29k. Nearly £9k lease over 2 years doesn't sound very good to me. I would imagine it would lose to more than 20%-25% value in this time going by current retention - so about £6k-£7k. With the mileage limits thrown in - better off purchasing one imo.

As for remarks about it not being a good car - ours has been superb in four years of ownership. Only issue has been rear-diff. Real world MPG is no where near what is claimed though - more like mid 30s on SD4 vs claimed 50 average.

You should be able to negotiate at least 5% off the list price of one these quite easily - if you've only managed £400 you're not trying hard enough. :wink:
If you don't like negotiating try getting a quote from someone like drivethedeal to make life a little easier.

Don't understand why anyone would buy/lease one of these. I don't like normal Range Rovers but understand why a certain type would buy them. In the middle ground but end up as pointless, a bit like the big minis from the other angle.

The 1.6 DIG-T 163 bhp motor in the Qashqai is actually quite decent. You can't get it with a 4x4 drive unfortunately, only the 1.6dCi model has that option. Evoque is really fun to drive, best one is obviously 2.0Si Petrol(240bph) but then it's really,really silly money(Mercedes GLA AMG territory).

I have to say it is far from underpowered from having driven one for a year! Also it is a different price bracket so it depends on your priorities. Yes I have the new model with Tekna. It has 360 degree cameras, panoramic roof and all the sign recognition gizmos. Personally would recommend it.

I love negotiating.....and that's what has frustrated me....no one will play ball, if I could get 5% I'd be delighted. I've tried the brokers too - that was even less!

That makes sense if you're a "savings under the mattress" kind of person. I'd prefer to invest my £30k into something, let that grow / yield a return, and just rent a car with its term cost being a known quantity.

If you manage to net a return of 10% on your £30k you'll make £6300 over two years, then if you fork out to rent the car you're only effectively paying £100 per month. You can't own for that.

I don't have one and I don't want one. However, they are a top quality vehicle and I think that some of the negative comments on here are being made out of envy. Not a deal for an owner of a 10 year old Mondeo but a good deal none the less.

Seems like a good deal if you like Evoques, until you realise this is the rock bottom SE trim without the cool body finishes. The HSE Dynamic is the one that looks sporty and generally awesome. This is the SE one and it just doesn't do it for me.

2 wheel driver vs 4 wheel doesn't both me because I wouldn't go offroad anyway, but the body styling needs to be right. I see thousands of Range Rover's in the car park at work (JLR) so perhaps I'm biased.

Lotus elise 111r also has no boot space, a 'crud old engine' from a mid 2000 toyota, harsh ride, wind noise and expensive to service, but that doesn't make it a bad car - far from it, just not a car suitable for you.

Why assume it's vanity? How about people buying decent brands for quality? I now have two German cars after years of owning crappy fords and French rot and will never swerve from a premium brand from now on, they are leagues ahead.

I would rather run a 15 year old premium brand than one of these cheap nasty things like Dacias. As soon as the low and mid range makes reach that level of quality I would only then consider those, nothing to do with vanity, all to do with quality.

I have had a new QQ for nearly 2 years now (1.5DCi) model and it is far from underpowered. It pulls well in all gears and returns me 50mpg combined. It is never going to be a hot hatch and neither is a 2WD RR EVoque!

QQ is by far the cheaper and better car to run.

No the fact it's a Lotus makes it a bad car instead....

That was the "crappy Ford" I had when I joined HUKD and as you can't change your username I am stuck with it - it was nearly new with only 25k miles on it when I sold it but it cost me £1800 in known Ford issues (ABS module, oil diaphragm, worn wishbone bushes destroying tyres etc etc), it was fast and fun but too unreliable - every other month something broke on it.

So I swapped it for a 1 series BMW and have now had 4 years of pleasurable motoring without any issues!! I also have a 3 series which we've had from new, now on 60k miles and never missed a beat, cheap to run also.

I've been running one of these (albeit a 4x4 'HSE Lux') for the last two years and it's been brilliant - just love it. Great mile-muncher but not so big that it's unwieldy around town or tricky to park. Loaded with toys (though most of them don't get used very often). Mine is averaging around 35mpg with largely urban use and will do nearer 40mpg on a motorway run. New one with Ingenium diesel should be way more economical.

Comparing with QQ is pointless - they're pretty good too (latest one) but a completely different class of vehicle.

Just to re-enforce the hairdresser claim about owners of this car - my other car is an Audi TTRS (who was it slating Audi earlier? tut tut).....so hairdresser car mark 2. Actualy I work in IT, and I a real mans car like a BMW M3 would be left in the dust from the TTRS performance - but anyway - I am digressing......

The TTRS Parkers price for my model and age private sale is cira £18k. Try finding one - look on autotraders - there are none, not at that price - and I know from others they are fetching closer to £22k-£24k for the same model.

All about supply and demand - and the TTRS was built in small numbers. The Evoque is everywhere, so it doesn't surprise me if they are actually selling below Parkers. Still - demand seems strong though - so this should help residuals.

PS. My remark about the rear diff was not to compare my model version to this one - but to highlight that build quality has been good, and when comparing to my Audi - it has been outside of the garage far more. This may be surprising to some given LR nearly always finish bottom in surveys on reliability compared to Audi who are usually top 10, or above mid table.

On the topic of depreciation, and better investing in growth and using a lease - as you say - it really depends on your outlook, knowledge of where to invest, and level of risk you are prepared to take. Nothing to say you wont lose 10% or more on an investment - the higher the returns, typically the higher the risk.

Haha jealousy is showing its green head again I see. We have just taken delivery of the new HSE Dynamic (so £43000 before extras) and its a lovely car. I do see a lot of people who instantly S**T on any deal on anything expensive on here. We dont buy a Dacia because we can afford not to. Same as I don't shop in Primark.
RR make excellent cars. They are brilliant in ice and snow, and mud and flooded country roads & both me & the wife HAVE to work no matter the weather. I cant just say "sorry there is 2ft of snow I cant come in". Nor can the wife. So 4x4 vital for us. This is perfect and its a reasonable deal. 3 year residual is 69.5% generally (the PCP deal will give you about 60% as a balloon payment, so leaving ~8% equity at 3 years.So on this car £12000 for THREE years would be the cost of PCP (give or take) so this is neither a bargain, nor a rip off. Personally I would buy on PCP with this car.

You have excellent taste, our second car is a TTS, i am very jealous of your RS. Its what I really wanted but I couldn't justify another £10k for the extra power. Thinking it will go in for an RS5 next year. Or Something less sensible like a Quattroporte S. What would you swap the TTRS for if you needed proper back seats and more space out of interest?

Jeez £43k on an Evoque is serious money. I'd just buy an xdrive 335d or something similar like an Audi S4 and have an all weather weapon with more room and another £10k in my pocket.

That said I do really like the new Disco Sport, it's like a grown up version of the Evoque. Shame they've all got pretty dated engines.

Motobility special? I think you are the deluded one. Thinking that a RR Evoque is the pinnacle of luxury! lol I own a couple of Maserati's so I don't need you to tell me what luxury is. The fact of the matter is that the RR Evoque is just so flawed it is not real. As an everyday car and in its class the QQ is the BEST.

:smiley: TTS is superb car too, and you could always apply a stage 1 map which will push it close to RS performance as standard. Mapped our RS to Stage 1, and difference is incredible - 410bhp, and acceleration on par with an R8 V10. Well worth it for < £1k.

I've not had to worry about back seats LOL (yet!) - but having had the RS approaching 6 years now - starting to get itchy feet. Problem is - for the performance - and styling - there is nothing really out there to replace it with. I took a Jag F-Type V6S out - but that's mid £60k, and still not as quick as the RS, although styling on a par. The only car I would exchange it for right now is the Cayman GT4 - but Porsche have tied up the market with only enough cars for Elite Porsche owners.

So......I have decided to hold out and wait to see what the new TTRS is going to be like :smiley: Just wish they would release some news on it!

Ditto waiting on the new one. Cayman is a no go. I HAVE to have 4WD. Im a GP and had to do a home visit on Monday up a track made entirely of leaves and 3-4 inches of soft mud. Needed a run up in the end. lol.

So you haven't had any problems, yet...no they don't, they have come last 12 years running in all of the recognised reliability surveys...the right Toyotas and Nissans will get you through the snow and mud as good, probably better, and I dare say other brands offer suitable cars too.

You have gone for the the Evoque because you think it makes you look the part, and you will be stranded in the dry soon enough, let alone the snow and mud.

On what planet is an Evoque a re-badged Freelander ?

The 16MY Evoque has a brand new class leading Ingenium engine, a 9 speed auto, a completely different bodyshell, different suspension parts, completely different interior, wheels and exterior panels. They don't even share the architecture with the Freelander being based on an old Rover architecture.

The Evoque is in the D8 family which is based on the Ford EUCD platform which consists of cars like the S Max, Galaxy, Mondeo, Freelander 2, Volvo V70 and Discovery Sport.

It is no way related to the Freelander.

It is about as accurate as saying a 911 was a re-badged VW Beetle.

Any large cars loses money, look at M5 Prices, Look at XK8 prices (5k for a 1998 car). Look at any large NA engined car and it will lose value and then good examples will appreciate in price. 2 years ago you could but a Ferrari 360 for 30k, it is only because people are turning to cars as an investment that prices are rising. It is a better option to put money into cars than in savings and that has helped the market.

Ok so to put your theory to test let's look now at 1967 Ghibli prices which are at £250k! Yeah that's depreciation right there, whilst they won't be expensive as Ferrari's because the sheep don't follow them they are a true icon of design and quality.

I am in the Motor Sales industry as well, 33 years. I even ran my own dealership twice.
Maserati are generally pits of endless pain...infact i would say they are only good for blowing your cash very quickly. A total impulse purchase in every sense. Don't get me wrong, they are a thing of beauty, the first time i turned one over and heard that ROAR......WOW! .......But would i spend real money on one..NO!
The BMW Z8, is a prime example of even the big boys can push a dog out of the door.
The Evoque is a similar money pit, the servicing is horrendous, the engines are a bit behind the times, ( yes i include the "NEW" ingenium as well). It may be worth getting a lease one, if you have a necessity to park it on your suburban drive for the neighbours to look at, but would i buy one with real money?..er NO!
