Have just installed 2 of these and saves swapping plugs around for different devices. Seems a really good price.

Current drawn is decided by device not socket.
The 2a is the maximum it can output, for devices such as iPads and tablets.
Good price. Glad to see these coming down in price.

Exactly. There will be a small but constant current draw for the 5v circuit, whether or not something is plugged in. Rather like having an appliance in standby.
Also, when the USB part packs in, it's hassle to change it.
My plug in Samsung chargers work just fine and can be switched off when not needed.

Sending these back as when wired in the usb light is so bright with nothing connected it lights the landing up. No idea why they have done it this way as makes no sense at all. Will get the ones from screwfix as these dont have a permanently on light.

No - That's OK - Sometimes things can get away from you  - All you need to do is go to "My Account", once there you'll see a menu on the left hand side - One of the options there is "Payment Cards"
You can probably see where this is going from there...

Figured they would be, if you can't isolate them other than by disconnection that's going to be a pain for any electrician.

its pretty straightforward testing a circuit that have these on, you only need to adjust the test voltage for line to neutral IR testing. just warn your electrician that you have them, if anyone has electrical work done.

Dont buy cheaper ones , it will damage you phone battery also most of the phone needs 1A (these are 2A sockets)
jayok to subas7
22 Nov 154#9
There are good reasons to be wary when buying these sockets, your reason is not one of them as the sockets provides up to 2A and your phone (or tablet) will draw what is needed.

might sound silly but i thought 2 A mean it will charge quicker than 1A

simple, don't put a usb in if you don't want to use it.
I leave my 3 pin sockets on for years with the switch on and nothing has happened to me.

usb doesn't draw power like the household plug think about it in a logical way. I would like to run my kettle or toaster from usb. but power sources can always start fires, so you are correct for thinking the way you do
The most common mistake people make when fitting any replacement socket is:
After tightening the retaining screw down on the two brown cables try and pull each one out.
The screw may have only gripped one cable. Do this for each of the 3 terminals.
It will still work if you've only gripped one. But you'll have started a chain of faults where the loose cable starts to burn.
Then the good cable will start burning too - because it's overloaded.

Just to be clear, are you suggesting not testing that each cable is firmly fixed in? I'm not quite sure what you're saying.

22 Nov 15#22
Wonder how these react when performing electrical testing. Wouldn't they have to be removed from the circuit before IR testing? Or does the on/off switch also isolate the USB sockets.
Is it just a matter of swapping old 2 gang socket for this one -same wiring etc?
luminox to rolo28

yes

If you do change sockets I'd recommend a plug in socket tester with the 3 indicators. They're cheap but will instantly tell you if wires have been transposed, missed or you have no earth. Not a full test but a little more reassurance than nothing.

My "pal" & I have made factual comment on the performance of the product.
Other readers can take that into account when making their decision to purchase or not.
That adds a lot more value than telling someone to move one.

The idea that "simple electric jobs can easily be achieved by people with common sense" has kept me in full employment all my life. They always blame their "good mate of mine did it". And their wives stand behind them shaking their heads. "Yes - and your mates left all his tools on the floor".

As I said" the criminally stupid". There are plenty of people very well qualified in other professions who probably did well at university but have no common sense. Still, keeps you in a job and fuels the "on the job" photos.

Behind your twin 13 Amp Socket is a metal box that it screws into. It's usually only 25mm / 1 inch deep. Many of these charger sockets need a 40mm metal box behind them to accommodate the transformer. It's not always a straight swap.
Lyrrad to GarryRF
22 Nov 151#21
Description on this states it fits 25mm wall box so should be a straight swap on these
rlearmouth to GarryRF

If you get a Deta one of these a) this is good quality from a well regarded supplier b) it has an optional stand-off collar to project the socket out slightly from the wall to help overcome back-box issues

Some do fit into a empty 25mm wall box. But the box already in the wall has 6 - maybe 9 - cables in it. 3 Brown - 3 Blue - 3 Earth and is already full.
