110% recommend this. I've had one for just over a year now. Best router I've ever had. I paid £140 for mine.

Thanks, managed to get one of the few from the Currys ebay listing.
I'm on cable but know they have a settings page for things like BT to allow the router to work, best to ask others that know. I think this applies to Fiber modems but not sure.

Are you using BT infinity? do you know any settings/configurations so the Asus matches the BT Hub's multi SSIDs for BTWifi/FON?

Mines got 6 guest networks, 3 per band.

No - I've never used the home-hub, they have never stopped me. You could change the SSID to match the homehub but I'm not sure that is the only element that the app uses to provide FON service but I'm happy to be corrected.

So no way to configure the Asus so it broadcasts the same SSIDs as the BT Hub4? Will BT find out I'm no longer contributing to BTWifi/FON and stops me using it when I'm away from home?

9 still appears to be available - via PC World on ebay rather than the website - see here: http://r.ebay.com/8tcTw0

I don't think so.
You can go one better - it will allow *two* guest networks - one on on the 2ghz, one on the 5ghz band which you can turn on and off as you need once you have set-up.

thanks for all the feedback guys. I think the WAN settings etc for BT Infinity have been covered in various threads on various forums, so that shouldn't be a problem, will find out if/when I get it.
Another question I want to ask is what about the additional SSIDs that my current BT Hub4 also transmits/broadcasts? namely BTWifi-X and BTWifi-with-FON, which I know is my "contribution" to the overall BTWifi/FON network, which I'm willing/happy to share because I also get to use the BTWifi/FON network when I'm away from home. So will this RT-AC68U also broadcast these additional SSIDs? so I continue to contribute to the BTWifi/FON network?
Also does the RT-AC68U have the option/feature to broadcast a temporary SSID for when you have friends/guests comeover and visitng? so you don't have to give them your actual password/key to your normal network.
thanks in advance

Just a tip - ASUS very quietly released a really decent android app (no ios yet I don't think) called ASUS Router which you can use to control this and other Asus routers and attached devices - just search google play for "Asus router".

How to, I changed to GB instead of totally unlocked as that disabled DFS meaning you may cause a big solid lump on a radar weather map, I live 10 miles from East Midlands airport so I didn't want to cause a problem.
Thread on how to is here, But you can brick your router if you do not check the file size is EXACTLY the same as the original file to the byte, I bricked an old N66u router by not checking as I had the insert button enabled by accident.
Actually the ignorance is on Asus's part as they sell a Router with EU region settings, not UK, UK has different power levels and channels, They are lazy and would rather upset a lot of people instead of flashing regional firmware and shipping to that country.
they are scared of a USA only regulation that has and never will have powers outside of US borders.
My router now works on the channel and power allowed in my country, as simple as that, DFS works and swaps channel when needed. I am happy with my router and not breaking any laws.
Open WRT allows region settings, and they are not breaking any laws.

This is very ignorant thing to do. There are very good reasons why the transmission power is restricted.

Great router once updated with Merlin's firmware or one of the forks derived from that.

I configured the AC68u to work with the HH5 even though it doesn't have a built in modem only mode using the following instructions:
Alternatively, you can buy the BT infinity modem on ebay for about £20.

I have this it took two days to get it up and running. I know what I am doing. I re flashed with merlins which gave me some more options but still would not give me a stable 5 gh channel eventually got it working. Throughput was about 100% up on my old net gear but the range was very similar. I would not buy it again and could not recommend this flaky piece of kit

tried to flubit this but they don't accept pcworld, then tried to flubit amazon but they keep detecting the wrong price (£140+) instead of the current amazon price which is the same as pcworld, now that pcworld is OOS amazon price is likely to go up very soon.
btw anybody got experience of using this Asus router with BT Infinity? currently have the Hub4 which has separate modem (signal abit weak at the far end of 1st floor so using a BT Dual-Band Wi-Fi Extender there), want to get better coverage into there and also to the garage and maybe back garden too, don't know if it's better to upgrade to Hub5, or will this Asus give significantly better coverage area and stable fast connection?

I have bt infinity and have the HomeHub 5.....a word of advice, do not bother upgrading to the homehub 5 as it is riddled with problems. I have had 2 replacements within the space of a couple months and I already need it replaced again but have been having problems with BT trying to sort this. Even the BT openreach engineer that came out admitted that a lot of people are having the same problem and are using their older hubs. I found the homehub 3 was the best. I now have the problem where BT won't send me out this homehub or the modem as I sold mine off :disappointed: I could grab it on ebay I suppose.
Does this router have a built in modem? I wouldn't want to connect it to my homehub 5, I will just have more problems that I will have to diagnose if things go pear shaped.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a bt homehub 5 replacement?

you can still order it on Amazon... can you not? they usually get stock in 1 to 2 weeks...
The asus is a much better router, better firmware support, the router should be quicker, longer range, more reliable, 3rd party firmware support, and some other great features like near mid range NAS support. You have to remember the asus router is usually priced around £150 price mark. It's a no brainer, get the asus.

my 2.4ghz reaches 9 houses away (about 100 meters) outdoors.
had to mod out the EU region in the bootloader to get full power (Merlin forks do the same)

the safer alternative seems to be the Merlin fork variants posted in the same forum subsection as that's not changing the bootloader.
Look for the [FORK] prefix http://www.snbforums.com/forums/asuswrt-merlin.42/

Replaced my crappy SKY SR101 firbre router, never looked back since.
Another thumbs up for merlin (dont forget to a donate a few quid if you like his firmware).
2.4ghz range could be better, but the 5ghz is so fast I never use 2.4 anymore unless its a really old device.
