Well...
"Microsoft Band and Microsoft Band 2 meet these standards for dust- and water-resistance:
•IP6X: No ingress of dust. Complete protection against entry of dust.
•IPX7: Protection against temporary immersion in water (at depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes).
•IP67: Meets both the dust- and water-resistance standards above
"
IP7 is the same rating as some other smart watches/fitness bands advertised as waterproof.
However, MS choose to not warranty it, which is a shame. So it meets water ingress standards, but I think MS realise it's not suitable for swimming so choose to not market it as waterproof. Possibly one of the many sensors causes trouble.

Microsoft will be offering £70 trade in on the band 2 when it comes out next month so a great way to try it out.
Disclaimer - I have the current band and it really is a nice bit of kit - It even helps you keep up to date with new deals on this site - check it out:

Really like the idea of one of these - in the whole "smart wear" fad, these still seem one of the more solid options. Still can't stomach £100 when I won't use half the features personally.

It's not uncomfortable to wear daily, band 2 looks like it's more comfortable it plays nicely with iOS not Apple Watch play nice but no problems when I had one

The revised Microsoft Band looks far more ergonomic, however after considering cashback for the first revision Band it is a whopping £121 more and very little difference in functionality.
