Not sure how well these compare to the philips etc but half the price...

I have the smaller Philips Air Fryer and it's OK.
I've never had any luck making crisp chips from scratch (they always come out soggy), but it works really well for:
- Frozen oven chips (cooks them in half the time vs oven or grill, and really even cooking)
- Baked potato (make sure you cook in the microwave first, and then crisp up the skin in the Air Fryer)
- Bacon (12 minutes for perfect crispy bacon)
There's a mad (in a funny way) Indian guy who shows some brilliant Air Fryer recipes on YouTube.

So no oil, hot air....
Does anyone else think this could be a fancy oven?

its in effect a mini convection oven. my microwave / normal oven does the same except half way through you have to 'stir' the chips or whatever is being cooked.
adding oil helps for that 'fried' effect but its not necessary.

That's all this and the Philips one (which I own), a fast fan oven.

I reviewed a Russell Hobbs one for Amazon Vine and it was shocking. Even the instructions referred to it as a specialised fan oven and that was supposed to be worth £150.

Especially if compared to an electric fan oven... But... What can you do... Marketing works!

You have to add a small amount of oil to home made chips, I have a Philips machine version, I use Olive Oil

Yeah, I know the Philips one is add 1 teaspoon or something. But this doesn't mention any of that at all. So wanted to make sure it's not a 50quid oven.

These types of fryers are great. I use mine ( different make )all the time and prefer the chips cooked by hot air. They work better than an oven due to the close proximity of the hot air, crimping the outside of the chips better. I love adding a spoon of groundnut oil as I find the taste improves the chips even more and seems to give them a great colour. Highly recommended people try hot air chips
