We've blagged Sky newbies (or those who left it 12+ months ago) this cracking deal on a 12mth contract via this special Sky line rent & broadband* link.

The offer goes live at 10am on Fri 19 Jun – from then, you'll get a code you can use immediately, but you can grab a code via the link now and Sky will alert you when it goes live, with a link to claim the offer. Codes can be redeemed any time before 11.59pm on Thu 25 Jun.

- A £100 credit we've blagged is applied automatically on your first bill. As this happens before you're asked for any payment, assuming you don't incur any call or other charges, the credit covers all payments for most of the first year - so you won't owe anything till a £5.35 balancing payment in the final month.

Probably not, BUT surely the best thing to do is phone plusnet and check rather ask a bunch of internet randoms about your account?

Plusnet may even try to match and save you the hassle of moving.
LightningPete to Sstuff
17 Jun 15 #42
most broadband and phone companies only have 12 and 18 month contracts and rarely 24. if by definition of 'years' your talking more than 3. you only have to give them notice your terminating and the current month your in you will still be charged.
ElectronicsEngineer to Sstuff
17 Jun 15 #56
If you are with PlusNet I would call them up and ask to match the deal or something - switched to Sky for the £100 M&S Voucher and Quidco cashback - worst choice ever - been with PlusNet for 2.5 years - no faults, no slowdowns - just steady speed that I could get at home - 5Mbps. Switched to Sky - first fault within a week. Then couple of months later a series of faults one after another - they fixed it once, then week after same thing.
Luckily there was a price increase so I could leave without incurring charges so I am back with PlusNet again and happy.

Might not be applicable in all areas but where I live I had Virgin (through landline), PlusNet and Sky....out of those 3 only PlusNet was reliable.

If you've been with PN for a number of years you should be able to haggle with them.

I asked them to match the newcomers deal which they agreed to in their retention department and managed to get free unlimited broadband, £75 cashback and paid for the line rental upfront £159.

Sky are the best a round, unrivalled content and a solid platform. BT/talk talk boxes and poor and software is shocking. Virgin Media is a joke when the boss sits there and says we can't compete-that's why RB sold up! The only company that comes slightly near is Netflix and they have old content- a year and a Half behind. So from your comment,I totally disagree. As for the BB and Talk, the routers are winners across the board for free routers.

And to top it off,you try and find a CS that is that strong, BT and talktalk are all foreign and have no clue what's going on! Yes sky have their little faults but They are a very strong and solid business that offers the best

They offered me £10 of line rental, free broadband unlimited both for 12month and 40% off sky variety for 6 months and 60% off sky tv package. My mam tried and got the same and with different advisor.
I only asked to downgrade broadband unlimited then he asked my ideal budget then said offers on account. Worth giving it a go. Much better and easier than over the phone. They help you out more!

I have the impression that there is/are very few people on this type of contract. We have been with Sky for 20 months ( currently out of contract ) with this type of setup. And very satisfied too!
Reason for thinking is that a couple of months ago Sky rang and spoke to my wife and offered fibre, but because we don't D/L movies it would be a no gain situation, we currently get between 14 to 15 MBps. When the saleman realised we had BB only he expressed amazement as we where the first of this type he had spoken to. We are in N.Ireland and are very impressed with the service.

Most companies are like that, do you a nice deal to start then prices go up. For example, mobile phone companies, you stick with what works even if it means paying for it because they give you what you want! This is the same as Sky, people stay with sky because they are the best

I have had two issues with the BB in the last 3 years and both times I have been put through to knowledgeable techies to resolve the issue. Turns out when the house was built 3 years ago a cowboy fitted the sockets and nicked/broke one of the wires and made an intermittent fault. luckily I wasn't charged and service is fine. I would have virgin if they were available as the ~10Mb is a bit poor in these days, but that is not their fault.

I find it funny that people are recommending PlusNet instead of Sky. It definitely depends on area, I moved from Sky who offered great service and support with good speeds to PlusNet as they offered a cheaper faster fibre package. No end of problems with my phone line since. The broadband has been fine but the phone line dodgy as hell. My brother did the same move and he is 25 miles away from me, exact same issues. PlusNet ported both our numbers over from Sky incorrectly and as a result we have been stuck with problem after problem. Mine are mostly resolved now, but I do have a slight crackle on my line still even with new handsets that has only appeared since the switch.
sam_3025
17 Jun 15 #115
Worth noting that broadband speeds and reliability may be questionable, I have this package of broadband in my house and after switching from basic VM it is nothing in comparison. Can't even stay connected when more than 10ft away from the router, and even when in range, speed is so slow.

I was stuck in a broadband contract with them for a year. The connection was so poor I was unable to stream YouTube videos at 480p. Their branded router constantly crashed/failed and was replaced twice throughout the year. Every time I called them for support I got the same long-winded robo-script that always concluded with the operator suggesting I was the party at fault and that any issues with the connection were at my end, not theirs.

I suspect it was never installed correctly as the connection speeds were poor from day one - the problem is you're not able to complain about this until 2 weeks after installation, by which time Sky's engineers will have apparently finalised the connection.

Never again.

Smacking hot deal - I just took Sky last week with the 100 M&S voucher and possible 90 cashback - which if paid would work out to 14 quid or so for a year - this one is better as no hassle of waiting for the cashback or being saddled with a M&S voucher which you may not want to use.

Can't comment about Sky, but I've had O2 BB => O2 BB + phone => plusnet => EE
Saved loads of money. They were all working well 99% of time.

The worst I saw was:
EE's DNS servers glitching (=> some websites not accessible) for a few hours every day for a few weeks in total. Annoying, but it may stop you reading **** on the net!
O2 shaped traffic quite a lot in the eve. But it was still sufficient for BBC Iplayer.
Plusnet, can't remember, I think they also shaped traffic and there were some rare outages.

That said, this is for London and 1-2 users on a 20Mb line. YMMV.

I am with Sky I took this deal out a few months ago and honestly think they are brilliant, I am very happy with them! I would recommend them, touch wood nothing has happened so far. I also think not sure if Topcashback are giving £100 M&S vouchers and £93 cashback, if that deal works out better?
nige182 to husain_kola
17 Jun 15 1 #172
I don't think so, the Topcashback option does not have half price line rental, so:

MSE - 12 months free broadband, 12 months £8.20 line rental = £98.40, £6.95 router delivery, less £100 cashback = total £5.35
Topcashback - 12 months free broadband, 12 months £16.40 line rental = £196.80, £6.95 router delivery, less £100 M&S voucher, less £93 cashback = total £10.75 with the requirement that you must spend £100 in M&S to reach this result

Sky are a nightmare. They have no incentives for people to stay with them. They changed my package so much in the first year, it went from £70-£80 (middle tier with movies and film, broadband and line rental). They took away some of the things we could access, stripped access for all HD channels - even ones you can get on Freeview, and they starting charging ridiculous amounts from our perks. Then you hear about all these people who are joining and getting loads of money off.

I'm still going to stay with them though. I just like to moan.
ili
17 Jun 15 #173
Over live chat, EE is provided via BT, so no MAC code is needed, you just switch when you purchase the deal and sky take care of the rest. EE will charge you x amount, you then send that off to sky and they reimburse via account credit

Jon79 to abrack

I get the full 40Mbps. Did you phone them and ask them to check the speed? If they say your modem is receiving the full 40Mbps then the problem is your end. Also try connecting a laptop directly to the modem to check it isn't a wi-fi issue. If it is a wi-fi issue then try changing the wi-fi channel to one the neighbours don't use.

Good deal if not interested in European football. Sky are trying to get as many customers as possible into new contracts before the start of the new Champions League and Europa League season to stop them migrating to BT. I'm amazed at the incredible hate spouted about Sky on here. I have Sky Broadband unlimited and I get solid consistent speeds and have done for the last 2 years. I'm on the Sam Knows broadband monitoring and I have never had any problems, certainly no worse than with the other companies I've used. I find the customer service excellent and [u][any/u] problem however minor has been solved easily. No I don't work for Sky, I do however detest BT if that helps. Speak as you find I say and I like them and their TV service is the best.
Jon79 to blink2105
17 Jun 15 #201
Amazing isn't it? I had teething problems with my broadband when i first got it and immediately blamed Sky but once i phoned up i got some quality assistance on how to setup the modem correctly and things improved. Then a few weeks later the speed seemed to slow down and again i jumped the gun thinking Sky was the issue. Phoned up and they said my modem was receiving the full 40mpbs so i knew it was an issue my end. I ended up moving the wi-fi dongle on my PC from the back to the front and BAM, full speed again.

So yeah, basically every issue i had was specific to my setup and i bet you the same is happening to other people who don't realise they can fix their own problems. The bottom line is to make sure you change the wi-fi channel to one your neighbours aren't using (google how to check this and how to change the wi-fi channel on the modem) Also if you are using a wi-fi dongle on your PC, like i am, then make sure it is positioned correctly or buy a better one.

This only relates to fibre broadband. ADSL speeds can vary.

Hot deal for those with low to average BB usage! Remember its sold as 'upto' as its ADSL so check the estimates expected in small print based on your distance to the local telephone exchange (just like any other Openreach product from BT, EE and TT)! I found their ADSL offering to be quite good previously but I lived near the exchange so that helped. If you upload (videos etc) a lot then i'd consider fibre over this as the uploads are much better on that product.

How did you do that ? They offered me £2.50 for unlimited with a 24 month contract on renewal but no mention of any vouchers despite being somewhat insistent.
Then I mentioned the sky offer and as of an hour or 2 ago, they can't yet match it - but have sent it to marketing..... So I said I'd ring back on friday.

Hi thanks for your response..

Samknows quotes:
2 mbps for ADSL
8 mbps for ADSL-Max

SKY over the phone said it is garunteed to be over 9.7mbps or you can leave within 3 months?

Is samknows a trustworthy website or should I believe SKY?

Thank you

Sky would have the better information. It's just a rough guide so you can work out how far your house is from the exchange 9.7mbit is what you would expect from an ADSL line 500-1000meters from the exchange

Hi I would just like to mention PLEASE check that SKY have there own equipment in your area before diving into this deal. Because I have had to stay with them for a year get around 1meg speed because there equipment was not in the area. And must of rang them over 50 times moaning about speed , watching videos is impossible. Basically if there equipment is not in your area they rent Bt 's stuff and BT will prioritise there own customers . Also they will choke your connection , loads of my friends were on this deal and had same problems.

But if it's in your area like a big city then it's a bargain...

Cheers just wanted to let you know...

Hi, think I've talked myself into this as so tempting but open to views .........
Will be second line in addition to work currently only 8Mb (6.5Mb actual approx 5-600M from exchange). Pay 20-odd per month to BT for line & anytime calls - so If I can get anywhere near 17Mb then would be well happy.

Or TalkTalk 18mth (12mth free, rest £5/mth + unlimited calls £7.50/mth plus £100 high street card (put towards new tablet). So 2.50/mth more expensive per month, plus the extra 6mths basically negates the 'free £100 voucher'

Seems a no-brainer for SKY, unless missing something or be really bad service. Any views ??

I wasn't renewing, I was a new customer (12 month contract, not 24), the amazon voucher may well only have been for new customers, can't tell for sure. The cashback only for new customers I believe. I got this contract abt 3 months ago.
I'm happy I've got a 12 months contract so I can get some more cashback in just 1 year when changing provider and yes whether I liked the service or not

Ok, I need some advice here:

Been with SKY for many many years (TV and Broadband only), but it was under my sister's name. She just got married recently and has moved out so she cancelled SKy TV and was told that Sky Broadband will be cancelled once I, myself, find an alternative ISP (So right now I am writiing this via Sky Broadband).

Personally I've been meaning to get away from Sky and try something else/cheaper but this deal is so good I cannot pass on it. What I wanted to ask is will I be able to get this deal even with this current situation. Also the fact that my line rental is with BT and has been for many years (another company I'm trying to get away from as they have been charging me too much over the years)

What would be my best options to do?
Thanks

Can I use the code NOW or on the 19th? I'm thinking of having this as a secondary failover line just for the £6 hell of it ya know.

I can get the £100 credit added but it won't trigger 50% line rental, guessing that won't trigger till 19th so I should wait?

I'm an existing Sky Customer, called them to ask if existing customers were given any offers as an incentive to stay. They basically bluntly put it that they're a business and they need to attract new customers, and no point for them giving existing customers anything. I said for existing customers it'd then be best to switch elsewhere to keep taking advantage of new customer offers. They said no because of some spiel of how Sky has better quality than all the others.

I hate this business of constantly annually switching everything just to ensure you aren't paying hefty prices, so companies can subsidise costs for newbies. If there was a company that offered new and existing customers the same competitive rate, I would defo sign up with them!
johndhuk to Mangs
17 Jun 15 #345
I don't think that's fair. If there was a company charging £6 EVERY YEAR then everyone would sign up to them.

Switching may be a hassle, but its the only way these deals could ever be possible.

For a while this afternoon there was an addition to the original post saying that the offer was now unofficially live via the introduce a friend link provided. I wasted a lot of time trying to activate my code and complete my order via that link. I see that that addition to the original post has now been removed. And the page on the Sky website that confirmed the details of the offer is now also redirecting to the current offers page. It was a huge waste of time for me, but I did save a live chat I had with the online support staff which confirmed all the details of the offer with one addition: he said there will be a £5 fee for checking new customers card details, payable up front but then credited to your account in the first month.

Well the £5 get's added as credit so that's fine. I noticed it's a free line installation as well so that would be sexy. Either way £12.95 with router delivery, or £32.95 with installation for a years backup line isn't too shabby.

Regarding most of these comments;
Sky broadband is not necessarily terrible, in the same way EVERYONE is not necessarily terrible, it all depends on the line going into your house.
Believe me, I've only recently changed job from selling TalkTalk and I heard people say just about everything about every provider.
Also you can legally leave a broadband contract after 12 months, they reserve the right to ask for their equipment back back they cannot charge a cancellation fee unless you've modified the contract in the past 12 months.
If I wasn't in a contract paying £20/pm for fibre BB and £12/pm for unlimited everything on mobile with TalkTalk (note these are regular consumer deals) I'd strongly consider this, although in my house all copper internet connections are atrocious, about 3mb.

Hot news Guys & Dolls

Just rang up about this deal and queried the costs of installing a new line (as a spare, like many have hinted here), instead of taking over current TT line. The guy insisted there will be a one off £ 100 charge.

So the £20 myth needs revisiting. Maybe that's the cost of a takeover OR activation of an existing socket only !

Can anyone else recheck this ?

from money saving expert website just to make it clear;

Blagged. For Sky newbies or those who left it 12+ months ago signing up to a 12-mth contract and paying by direct debit, via this Sky line rent & b'band* link. You need a code (14,500 avail) - they're likely to go fast and you can get one now via the link, but can only redeem it from Fri 10am-Thu 25 Jun 11.59pm. Here's the deal:

- Compulsory line rental. Blagged for half-price for 12mths at £8.20/mth - so £98.40 over the year. It rises to the normal £16.40/mth after the year but you can leave then.
- Unlimited broadband (avail to 90% of UK). Up to 17Mb speed, this comes 'free' with the line rent for 12mths. After that you can leave or pay £7.50/mth.
- Compulsory Sky router. It's marketed as 'free' by Sky, but the p&p costs £6.95.
- Call costs. Weekend calls (up to 60 mins per call) to landlines included; other calls to UK phones are incredibly similar to BT (see full call charges). If you rack up £100/mth in call charges (even if your account is in credit), you'll be cut off until it's paid off in full.
- You pay £5 upfront to 'verify your card' but you get it back. It's credited on the first bill.
- A further £100 credit we've blagged is also applied automatically on your first bill. You'll therefore have a £105 credit on your account, incl the £5 above. Assuming you don't incur any call or other charges, the credit then covers all payments for most of the first year - so you won't owe anything till a 35p balancing payment in the final month.

Analysis: The £5, a year's line rent plus the £6.95 router p&p is £110.35 over the contract (excl calls). You also get the £105 credit ( £5, plus the £100). Factor that in and you effectively pay £5.35 for a YEAR'S broadband and line rental - absurdly cheap.

A £20 installation fee may apply. Don't have a line, or switching from cable? You'll pay £20. A few on certain standard lines may need to as well. The only way to know is via the application process (it'll tell you before you commit, you'll need your exact postcode and landline number). See Installation info.

So did I but I signed up to the deal but it showed the full line rental. I naively thought that the discount would be on the bill. Thought I had better check. I then spent 2 hours trying to sort it out. I have been promised that when my account goes live the nice lady I spoke to will personally make sure I pay the reduced price.

I admitted to being partly at fault by signing up too soon but I also had a moan about Sky website accepting a code that was nothing to do with the offer.

I am only into the 10th month of a 12 month contract with BT, so would I be able to order this deal, this friday to start sometime next - end of July of start of August, of will the change over from BT - SKY needs to happen as soon as I give them the code and my details.

Also do I need to ring BT and get a PAC/PUC code for this swapover or sky does that as well....

thanks in advance

We currently pay £42.50 for the basic channels, multi room (half price), Unlimited broadband, phone line (free) and a £5 call package. Rang up yesterday to say we will be leaving as our bill will go up to £62 and they offered to knock £20 a month off for the next 10 months. Unsure weither to accept it or wait until nearer the date, restart as a new customer or leave completely. We want movies added back also so the price will go up..... not sure if I want the hassle of having to leave and rejoin, having no net or housephone..... Quick question: Do I need to call BT first to cancel my line rental for this deal to become active (i.e. Phone & Broadband)? Or once I complete this order process it will happen automatically?

I've been with BT for soo long now, which means I'm not binded within a 12/18 month contract.

Edit: Right now, my phone line rental is paid to BT and my internet connection is paid to Sky. Both are outside contracts. No Skys TV subscriptions though, that was cancelled a couple of months ago.

As I posted I would have thought the Sky website would have rejected the code I was putting in as it was obviously wrong. Apparently they have corrected their web page now. If Sky don't honour the deal I will still be within my 30 day cancellation period although I hope it doesn't come to that.

We got Sky broadband for free when we signed up to Sky tv last year. The experience of moving from Virgin to Sky was like falling from the sky. It took them 3 months to get the line sorted, kept on blaming me for the problems and threatened that they would charge me £70 call out charges if problem was mine, Got it working after numerous texts and emails and a month of checking and rechecking the setup the engineer finally came and there was an error at the street cabinet. It worked for a day and stopped and I had to endure another 2 months of countless texts (as phone also stopped working on both occasions) and emails from my mobile, their insistance that I had messed up the setup and the line was OK and they would charge me £72 for call out if it was my fault. Just checked my texts: reported by text on 23rd August, engineer came and fixed it 2nd time on 26th November. Worst service ever, Dozens of emails and texts and they kept on insisting that I phone on their 0845 number but my old mobile contract does not cover that number and it costs me a fortune. Still I tried but they put me in the queue for 10 minutes and I gave up. Absolute disgrace and, as I said, too expensive even when it is free.

Don't join- its a CON- they will increase there prices massively once they have you locked.
they did that to me. got the 50% off for 12 months= they did 2 prices increases within the year Added £5-10 month on my bills

no lol. if they have price increases then by contract terms and conditions you are allowed to exit the contract without any exit fees.

I agree they increase their prices a lot, I have been with sky for 8 years, the problem with sky is unless at the end of your contract you threaten to leave only then do you get a good price.
I have TV phone and fibre pro, they did the usual and put it all up and wanted £95 per month for it all, I gave them a months notice and this was dropped to £36 per month for it all, and fibre pro
They take the mick but I have no issues with the fibre, but remember to tweak your router as the basic settings aren't great,

After the call, I also went on live chat and the guys clearly mentioned that "if you already have a line coming in, then sky would take that over . A new line will cost £100" The engineer visit is to activate an idle/inactive junction box/rewire it to make sure you are connected ! I suggest someone double check this thoroughly tomorrow, so there are no hidden surprises.

Sky assume you are all on ADSL and would be an easy switch. Hence the offer. With Fibre, it is more difficult to switch at the exchange and BT needs to be involved. Hence running a new line costing £100.

I think the postcode check to fill out the address causes that error. It's misleading...

Could you please tell me is the speed you are getting the one advertised on the website when you go through the speed checker depending on your address?

Or an quicker check through this website, type in your postcode and then choose the "BT ADSL" option: https://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Thank you

Does anyone know if it is still possible to leave Talktalk without cancellation fees because of the contract changes (broadband price increase £3.50 to £5) in the last 12months? I read it was allowed cancel charge free for 30 days after receiving the notification letter regarding the price hike. Just wondering if it might still be free, and if so worth switching to Sky.

For all those looking to arrange the deal for an impending address change / house move: note the requirement for a refundable £5 fee to be charged to a card during signup, this may fail if the registered cardholder address is different to the service / installation address.
From MSE: "You pay £5 upfront to 'verify your card' but you get it back. It's credited on the first bill."
Edit: seems the card verification procedure is via MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by Visa, and does not involve any address crosscheck.

On the BB Checker my results are:-
Standard ADSL RAG results

You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL

I already get 3Mbps with my current provider. Will my speed be reduced if I switch?

Called EE last night and put notice in. You do not need a MAC code anymore as it has changed according to EE. Your new provider will deal with it all and contact your current provider and advise them of the move on your behalf. Your current provider should contact you and confirm this is going to happen and your happy to accept the move.

You are mistaking mobile contract for phone contract. Month ago I left Sky (due to awful speeds and constant line fails) without incurring exit charges because they increased prices. I had a chance to do it 2 months after I signed with them as they increased the prices but then I decided to give them a chance (first week and first line fail - was not impressed). Then luckily price changes to 0800 numbers came along recently and I was able to leave early  - didn't take a risk this time....so I am now with PlusNet together with 35 cashback and 75 cheque from them and speeds are back to how they should be - their cooperation with BT is just excellent - took Sky week to fix my line....when I switched to PlusNet I had a fault on the line - notified them Friday evening on Bank Holiday weekend. On Sunday had a visit from BT to my home and guy sorted it out - something I would never expect to happen as you would think that on Bank Holiday weekend they would not work so I thought that it will be sorted no sooner than Tuesday but hey hey  now it's working flawlessly.

Got my voucher and very tempted for this. Can anyone confirm :
Have BT Line but no BB on it currently - will this incur additional setup charge ?
Want to have Anytime calls @ £5 per month - will this still come out of £100 credit ?
Is caller-ID included as standard on SKY lines ?
Thanks

last question(probably not :stuck_out_tongue: )

anyone know what the connection set up looks like on the wall? any kind soul care to take a pic of how the service comes into the house via sky/bt?

with virgin you get a box in the wall for the connections and obviously the telephone line is then fitted where I wanted.

Similar to this but only the BT box with microfilter attached (not the wire or connection below or the other box

The router cable isn't very long (2ft I reckon), so I now have mine behind the sofa as it doesn't reach my TV cabinet on the other side of the wall. But it depends where they come in to the hous
