I have read some very unfair - uneducated reviews, a treadmill is worth as much as one needs one and diets are alright if they work. 95% of people who diet alone fail within three months because of the bodies protection, once the brain realises it is not getting the same amount of fat and calories it stops lecting being released a fat burning hormone, your body then starts storing fats and using food as your body needs it, so you start to put weight on and losing weight slows down.
Exercise uses to the fats and calories which the brain excepts so diet with exercise is far more effective then without, with exercise its not about dieting but learning to eat more healthy. Withing the last year I have lost four stone 2 pound and 50% of that is down to the treadmill, in the past I have dieted and exercised unwisely and lost a couple of stone to later on put it back on +. I am not saying changing your lifestyle is going to be easy and every individual is different, I am 52 and top speed I have reached on the treadmill is 9 kph a fast walking pace, but it as been effective as I get a good sweat on, other people may reach higher or lower but if it is working that is only what matters.
I started very slow in my training as I weighed 22 stone I am now 17 stone 12lb withing 11 months, 50% I say is down to the treadmill the other 50% is down to my other exercising and eating healthier. If you do train you have got to eat calories to burn calories and fats to burn fats, but there is fats you can eat naturally and fats you can't, you get a lamb chop there is about 20% fat in the meat so cutting the outer fat off is wise making the chop healthier and it is healthier eating two chops this way then one. Eating healthier will be more expensive but effective, to diet without exercise is like eating poorly with exercise it isn't healthy, Fat people are not the only ones who encounter health problems, the treadmill is a good way of losing weight. I have just ordered this Everlast XV10 and I am sure it will do as my old treadmill did, I can't and will not say what is best for another only share my facts with you and what as worked for me, Mike

I already lost a lot of weight and got into shape by eating right, pushups, and going on long walks across the cliff-tops, a few times a week.
Now I've moved to the city, put on a little podge, the walks are not as inspiring, and when the weather is poop, I'd prefer to have something like a treadmill, set it to a high incline and watch netflix! :sunglasses:
I thought this might be a nice compromise. I've never heard of Nordic, and I didn't know Everlast was a Sports Direct Brand, but they were going long before SP was even a thing -- wasn't Everlast a respectable boxing equipment brand at one time?

If you excercise you will definitely want to eat well.
If you dont excercise you won't always eat well.
Only those who excercise know how punishing it can be. So they are less inclined to make it hard on themselves by eating badly.

Excellent price for the spec... so so tempted for the home gym project I'm contemplating.

I would not recommend buying any heavy gym equipment from Argos i bought a Reebok treadmill last year for my daughter after 5 months the frame snapped reebok engineer came out and diagnosed it as frame failure.. I rang up argos who offered me a replacement so i arranged delivery and pickup on same date..
Now argos do not use there argos delivery for these heavy machines due to weight and injuries caused by the heavy weight and the amount problems this was causing them they use a company called expert logistics now when they came out to deliver they refused to collect saying no room on lorry so i rang up n rearranged collection only for 2nd collection team refusing saying it needs to be dismantled and flat packed i contacted argos and got told the same even though id advised the lady i had not saved the big box live in a small house once machine was set n tested i disposed of the box for re-cycling and then got told un pack the new machine and pack old one in. I explained i had no floor space to do so. To which i was told i would have to manage some how by putting the old machine on it side etc. i then went on to explain id had surgery and health issues and no one to help lift the machine except the kids and an elderly father. Was advised ask a neighbour or anyone i explained i was told by reebok not to touch machine it was dangerous got told if i didnt return dismantled n flat packed in a box i would be charged for both machines
So following this advise i dismantled machine n moved it on to it side n some how it sprung open crushing my index finger kids called paramedics and asked eledery neighbour who was home luckly he managed to dismantle the machine to let my finger out. Got taken to hospital had surgery on my finger left with 22 stitches a torn tendon damaged blood vessel and digital nerve loss of sensation in part of my finger and 8 months on still having physio and still problems using and bending my finger have got a apt with hand trauma surgery to decide if further surgery should be an option..
Action taken both machines returned complained to Argos who aplogised and refused to take blame saying i didnt injure my finger whilst dismanlting the machine but moving it hang on but it still the same process
What you eat counts for around 60-70% of being healthy, you can eat certain foods that help burn fat. The exercise just boosts the rest.

*IBS is a condition not an injury but I get your point.
Ive got a road bike, dislocated my knee when younger, 3 ops later and it's knackered at the ripe old age of 28. Diagnosed with osteoarthritis so running is a big no no, cycling is so much better anyway. non impact and it can be soooo **** hard! True, but is this one actually any good? I've always associated Everlast with Sports Direct, so I've questioning the £1000 RRP on this. Argos are very good at conning people into thinking they're getting a good deal, when they're not really.

Just not true.... It depends on the reason on why you are over weight. If you don't regularly exercise then your metabolism slows right down and therefore just by exercising you can loose a stone or two easily! It's also the most likely way of actually keeping it up as dieting does not work long term because it is too easy to get back in to old habits whereas exercising gives you more energy and a feel good factor that rewards your brain and makes you want to continue to exercise. So good on anyone of most fitness levels or physic for starting to exercise more all I can say is after the first 5-10 times of running and pushing yourself it does get easier but until then it feels worse every run as your body tells you that this bloody hurts and to stop! Don't let this beat you as its all in the mind, running 80% mental IMO so just push as hard as you can! Another word of advice try to run outside when you can as it keeps your mind occupied (try and find a nice quiet park or canal not on the road if your starting because of the idiots in cars who think it's funny to beep and hurl abuse!) and it's cooler and can be easier on the body. Voted hot as well as it seems a good price!

No, exercise is far more important. You could keep a healthy body while eating excessively if you increase your exercise accordingly.

I bought this machine from Homebase in May (for £350 as while same price then, they were running a 20% off everything for May Day) after a cheaper second hand one I bought broke down and can't complain. It is sturdy and feels more like a gym treadmill, can take a lot of weight and can get to speeds a lot of the cheap ones can't (i will never run faster than 18km/h at long distances). Bluetooth is an added bonus but dont expect much, while the run on earth app works well and is good for novelty value the other app they provide is flaky at best with my phone never getting past the connecting screen (had more success with my daughters ipad) and those things that look like speakers on the front...arent so no bluetooth music (although your phone in the bottle holder gives off a good sound). Has developed a slight creak when running but otherwise I can't fault it and me and my daughter have been running on it near daily.

Sorry everyone but I was not saying diet is not important but exercising without changing your diet will change your metabolism and if you consume the same amount as before but with an increased metabolism you can loose weight. You can easily lose weight just by exercising if you are not drastically over weight already but living like a Zombie (I speak from experience as I am 6ft 3 and was 16.5stone and then I started running last year and got down to 13.10 stone WITHOUT changing my diet!). I bought a treadmill as well at Christmas as I can't exercise in the winter with my asthma and I don't enjoy the cold as I get ill! This has helped my keep me fitness levels up and now I am running 10k in 50 mins and use 1000 calories so again that shows the power of running! However I would not start running over 10k twice a week as it can do damage to your knees if you start running longer distances too frequently. So I agree with why you want to buy a treadmill and I really hope you can achieve your goals and this helps you and anyone who wants to try running!

The number I gave was a rough estimate, you're right when you say it's difficult to calculate how much electricity these things use and there may have been other contributing factors e.g. we used more electric that quarter for whatever reason. We could do with someone who has a smart meter and a treadmill to comment as they tell you how much in pounds and pence. Although, as long as I can afford it which I can, I'm not too bothered. If I didn't have it I wouldn't have any motivation to exercise but with my treadmill I go for a run 4 times per week. No having to drive/walk to a gym, exercise and go home. Time is precious and finding time to exercise is a difficult thing, having one of these at home means it takes as long as it takes for me to walk upstairs, get changed and then I'm off! I jump off and straight into the shower, saving me at least 2 hours as my nearest gym is miles away.
I would advise anyone to buy a treadmill to build up their strength and stamina and then start running outside, eventually removing the need for the treadmill. Can then sell it on for someone else to do the same

Thank you, it's bearable, but way more than I was expecting. The plan is to use mine for an hour a day, but, realistically, probably will be 30 mins on average. I had done a quick online search a few years back when I was first thinking of getting one that seemed to suggest they were only like 10 or 20p a day in electricity! So, bit of a difference. Honestly though, I have no idea how you calculate how much electricity something uses, so, I guess, it will cost what it costs (but I do hope it doesn't cost as much as yours does!). Mine was a much cheaper model than this, so I am hoping that means it isn't as higher powered, and thus not as much electricity. I agree though, I would never be motivated to go to a gym, and hate going out walking on my own, so a treadmill is ideal for me too.

I'm a big fan of the static bikes too as you can really increase your fitness on them I find, especially interval training. Definitely always a place for indoor machines, where everything's a bit more controlled but you can't beat a nice bike ride on a cool summers day.
Vanderlust
21 Jun 15#47
End the day, you just can't beat cycling. Way more fun, and you go much faster. Great sense of freedom even if you're riding through the city.
Indoor trainers are available now that are both good quality and affordable, so your bike can be your outdoors exploration machine, crit beast, and indoor trainer. Just pick up some Sufferfest vids and maybe Zwift to keep you entertained while you spin to win.

People hate treadmills but I got one in Jan (Reebok ZR8) from eBay and it's been the best thing I've ever done fitness wise. I can put in serious mileage now without my shins blowing up ( had to stop in Nov last year after diong the 70km a week Strava challenge).
It's just a tool. Can be **** or amazing depending on what you do with it. Best thing for me is that I've broken through some barriers as it forces you to keep your legs moving. Anyone can do a short sprint as fast as they can, but to train your legs to speed up over longer distances ain't easy. I'm using the GIPIS app atm. Love it.
Also, anyone thinking that treadmill is easier has been fluffing it. Always set it to 2 or 3% incline. The indoors temperature makes runs much harder that outside. I actually find my outdoors sessions breezy in comparison now.

21 Jun 15#40
It depends on how often you use it. The most I've added on is £70 a quarter which is a lot of money for some people and not for others... that was a lot of use though. I look at it this way, if it's less than or equal to a gym membership then I'm happy. I would never be motivated enough to go to gym whereas the treadmill at home is easy, I just hop on 30 minutes before I go for a shower in the morning .
Worth noting my treadmill is an Everlast EV9000. Don't know how much they were brand new but I bought it secondhand for £150 three years ago and it's only fault is the lcd screen which sometimes plays up when I'm running and changing between time, current speed and distance. I also don't know whether more expensive machines maybe have a better energy rating?

Good advice in the main but it's not true that diet isn't more important than exercise. Weight loss is VERY simple, it's ensuring net calorie loss. As such, even intensive training is only going to lose you 600-800 calories per day - the same amount as is in 3 lattes.
Dieting (as in having a healthy diet) absolutely works long term. Fad or short term diets don't work. It's got to be a lifestyle change not a time bound/target weight diet.
Diet is the most important thing to get right for weight loss, exercise is a secondary (but important) factor.

I've been running for years. Last year I thought I tweaked my knee, and found out that I've actually got ITBS, and can no longer run outside for more than 10 minutes before experiencing excruciating pain. But I can use a treadmill without injury. A treadmill will never be as good as actually going outside, and if I could I'd be out there pounding the streets every day. A treadmill means I can at least keep my cardio going, and also rehab the ITBS.

I imagine a lightly used Nordic Track could be picked up for the same price on ebay. No way an 'Everlast' branded electrical product is worth £400 let alone £1000!
Running is excellent for cardio fitness, but there's better methods for actual fat burning such as HIIT cardio (YouTube). But at the end of the day it all comes down to what suits you the most and you enjoy.

Ive got a road bike, dislocated my knee when younger, 3 ops later and it's knackered at the ripe old age of 28. Diagnosed with osteoarthritis so running is a big no no, cycling is so much better anyway. non impact and it can be soooo **** hard! I'd personally never run inside though, how dull and boring.... zzzzzzz
No glory without discipline.
I haven't lifted a finger but gone from 13.5 to 12.2 in twenty weeks just by changing my diet.
I have a running machine I use to store clothes on, a reebok type and it just looks like this, motorised, same build, everything.
It was £299.00 but I bought it reduced.
My point is that if this was originally worth £999.00 I'm Brad Pitt.
Put simply, it's a case of burning off more calories than you take in.
NHS have a podcast you can follow called couch to 5k. Time flies following the sessions.
Gotta love this site.
It's a lease deal?
Certainly cold.
It's an unbranded 55" TV but only £299.00?
Must be hot hot hot!!
Running machine was £999.00 but now £399.00
SCORCHIO!!!!!
hahaha!
The amazing thing? Same results for a lot less.
I would advise anyone to buy a treadmill to build up their strength and stamina and then start running outside, eventually removing the need for the treadmill. Can then sell it on for someone else to do the same
Being in for the kids is important.... If you have kids in bed you cant just go for a run... Just saying.
Bought the treadmill... Good deal
Indoor trainers are available now that are both good quality and affordable, so your bike can be your outdoors exploration machine, crit beast, and indoor trainer. Just pick up some Sufferfest vids and maybe Zwift to keep you entertained while you spin to win.
Had a ProForm that I paid 589 for about 7 years ago and it's still going strong, I use it for HIIT and I'm shredded.
If this is retailing at £400 there is still a hefty profit for Ashley. He never sells at a loss. So just think about the quality of the product.

I've heard of Technogym, LA fitness etc but not Everlasting, reminds me of Lonsdale, is it a Sports Direct own brand?
This is most detiniftely a £300-£400 item stuffed up to £1000 then yanked back down to £399.
