Well as long as you keep them away from reach, then yes they are quite safe. But if you plan to have it on all time, then I would consider hiding wiring and power adapter. Also connection should be insulated, because it easily comes apart (we dont want kids touching it do we?). Really you have to make it safe for your kid. Additional 6A fuse after power supply would be good idea too (just in case controller blows).
These led strips are really nice and can be fitted almost everywhere, but power supply is another story. Over time capacitors bulk up and it fails to provide enough power. So if you plan to have really long strip (you can attach more strips, then a proper 12V supply would be ideal investment.
You can fit this in your kitchen at your own risk. Strip itself is silicone coated so its splashproof, but connections, adapter, supply are not....

Excuse the phone pics. Using about 3-3.5m of them behind a 42" telly:
Great for bias lighting, making blacks deeper on TV and the image easier on the eyes than pitch dark. Here's mine:

Question for any electricians on here... Are these safe to use in the home and to leave connected to a socket permanently ???
They seem good value and I am just thinking of getting some for my sons bedroom.

Yes you can used it permanently but you have to make permanent sticking solution where you want to stick .. because manufacturer glue is not sufficient to stay permanently.. i have to used adhesive tape to stick in my bedroom
Hope give solution helpful ..

I'd personally check for a BS or BSEN standards to be safe

I already have 2 sets of these and plan on getting more. They are perfectly safe to use in the home and to leave connected to a socket. They run through a 12V DC converter into a IR controller into a 3 pin led reel. One thing I found though is the stickiness of the glue used isn't suitable to all surfaces so if you use a bonding adhesive you know its going to stay where you put it so make sure you get it right 1st time... I have mine connected to my mp3 doorbell so when people ring the bell I have my own little disco go off to the music played.

Yes you can used it in kitchen but have to prevent the bottom from water because ..some kind of glue tape which stick ..at the bottom of strip.

I've got a couple of kits, one really old one that's been in continuous use for years. With these, the strips and the controller are the safest parts, the weak point as far as safety goes is the power supply. The included power supply will be suspect especially at this price point. Your better off using a better power supply for peace of mind, any 12v 1.5amp or better will do. On mine I use an old Motorola cable modem power supply.

I would argue 12V 1.5A option, coz original power supply is 12V 2A. Controller supports up to 6A. So really you need power supply from 2A to +-7A. Anything below 2A will just put power supply on its max and produce heat if you will have LED strip on its max output.

I have these under my kitchen cupboards and the effect is lovely. Perfectly safe. Heat added

Dum-dum question, but is one set okay for two separate kitchen cupboard units?
Well you could argue that. The power supply included will be generic and very over rated. There will be no comparison with a branded power brick, the 1.5amp power supply I've used runs a 5m RGB 5050 LED strip producing white effortlessly, it runs warm but never gets hot - its 9 years old and has a lot of weight to it. On another note I've ran a 600 3528 white LED strip from an old Virgin Superhub power supply without issue. Lots of people have old power adapters laying around from discarded tech, an old modem/router or whatever power supply even if its slightly underrated will be a safer bet than what they include in these kits.

I bought these and have them set on the back of my wall mounted tv. I paid about £16 for them and they another £5 odd for extra connectors and joints and extenders etc. They look great. Colours are bright and changeable. I have so many comments about them. Well worth the £20 I paid and for £10 this is a great price.

That's because you have old transformer power supply, which are almost unkillable  new switched power supplies use transistors to downgrade voltage, so produce a lot heat and capacitors usually just dry out. In any case you can even use 1A power supply, but trouble is that it wont be as bright as it would be with 2A power supply.... Its like flashlight whilst batteries are new its nice and bright, but when they run out it becomes more dimmer and dimmer.... Things like cameras, tv's etc wont even start up if there is not enough current from power supply....
Than again its up to you what to use. I just said that better more power than less....
