I've been looking for a USB sound card for my N54l which has optical output and was usb powered so I can use my server as a HTPC... just ordered one of these....
This has good reviews on amazon, i think there's a problem with the reviews on the game website as it shows 29 reviews with average rating of 3 stars but if you click on the reviews tab it says no reviews.... Hope this helps someone else out... It's over £20 on amazon :)

Typical of how some links work on HUKD - if you right click and 'open in new tab' it'll work fine but when left clicking HUKD seems to check and direct via their affiliate links (I suspect) which is fair enough as they have to earn some money by providing us this site. Often it takes a while for the linking to work properly and some never seem to work properly.

Good price if you want surround and your receiver won't accept HDMI - otherwise a cheap graphics card makes more sense.

Yeah, that's my setup... I have an old amp without hdmi...
Just put an xfx hd 6450 in there and sound through hdmi works fine to my tv... I just need to get 5.1 to my amp :smiley:

Reading some professional reviews it seems the output is not the best for headphones but I guess optical should be fine?
I have an N40L so currently using a 6450 too and my sound is currently stereo via hdmi out to the tv and back to the home cinema unit.
The alternative would be a £25 Asus sound card with much better overall sound quality and support.

The Asus Xonar low profile is a great match for the microserver, had to sacrifice mine as I need a TV tuner and graphics card (and only 2 PCI-e slots). Got a generic USB sound card off ebay and it works fine with Windows 7. Couldn't get ot to work at all with WHS, so maybe worth checking compatibility if you have the microserver/WHS combination.
