Ahhh.....the Guardian and the Observer at last.
Waitrose must have realised how offensive it was to a large part of their customer base for them to be dishing out free copies of that downmarket, trashy, poisonous little tabloid rag of a Daily Mail.

Waitrose is expensive though.
I can get a weeks worth of shopping in Iceland (2 loaves, 12 eggs, beans) in Iceland...and still have enough to buy my Sunday Sport.
I don't think Wait rose even sell the Sunday Sport...
Still voted hot for posh people who read The Sun, etc

The Guardian is just as bad as the Daily Mail, it's just the polar opposite.

great deal, like reading the telegraph from time to time. the weekend editions have some good games and crossword puzzles.

Great news as I don't normally go in during the week! Also, my Waitrose (the shop, not the card) has just installed a tea/coffee machine and you can have one free drink every day you're in there!
MyWaitrose just keeps on giving....

I wonder if you could just buy newspapers to make up the £5 or is it limited to one newspaper?.

The paper can not be included in the £5 and you are only limited to one free paper each transaction. I work at my local waitrose on the checkouts

Good bonus with real newspaper at last, but DO remember to check it really DOES get deducted from your shopping.
Historically it isn't the computer that says 'free', it's the Waitrose staff member realising you're after the offer & remembering to scan an extra offer barcode; at least a couple of times they haven't and required adjustment/extra hassle-time for all after.

I'm going to alternate between The Guardian and The Telegraph in a vain attempt to land somewhere near the truth.
EDIT: agree with the above comment, I frequently have had to keep staff right regarding this offer. Also, they seem to have started dishing out the free tea/coffee in 'special' size cups for card holders which is fair enough I suppose but it does make me feel slightly cheapskate!
