For anyone interested in buying a holiday home, I found this on the Park website:
"WE HAVE A FEW CARAVANS TO GIVE AWAY AT SELECTED PARKS - LIMITED AVAILABILITY!
We are keen to attract new customers to enjoy the caravan ownership lifestyle so we are giving away some caravans on a first come first served basis.
All you pay is the standard pitch fee and the connection cost charges - then you are ready to enjoy your holiday home!
We haven't gone completely mad - these are older smaller units - often 28' x 10' units around 15 years old. They are fully safety tested and ideal starter caravans for people who want to discover if they like the lifestyle, then perhaps upgrade to something more luxurious in the future.
As you would imagine - demand is likely to be high so please get on the phone to the park of your choice ASAP if you are interested.
The situation changes daily - but we aim to have such caravans available at the following parks -
Harts, Leysdown, Kent
New Beach, Dymchurch, Kent
Winchelsea Sands & Frenchmans Beach nr Rye East Sussex
Oaklands, St Osyth Beach & Seawick, nr Clacton, Essex
Steeple Bay, nr Maldon, Essex
GIVE THE PARK A CALL FOR MORE DETAILS -BUT BE QUICK OR YOU MAY MISS OUT!!"
I have listed this under deals as there is a connection fee and ongoing pitch fees so whilst the caravan is free you have to shell out money in order to take up the deal.
The offer applies to older caravans only but the deal may be useful for anyone on a budget that is looking for a basic holiday home.
I THINK YOU NEED TO EXPLAIN THE FEES ARE AROUND £3800 AND ARE ONLY TILL THE END OF THE YEAR, IT SOUNDS ALL FAB UNTIL THEY TELL YOU YOU DONT ACTUALLY OWN THE CARAVAN AND ENTICE YOU TO BUY A NEW ONE AFTER;-)

An unusual deal but a good one. If we lived any where near these parks I'd be tempted to find out more.

Surely a park near you would defeat the object? ;-)

Pitch fees
These vary depending on location. Typically they range from around £1500 upwards and average around £2,500. Your pitch license agreement with us sets out the controls which limit future increases.

Looks like it will cost you £2,000 to £3,000 in annual fees to say the least. Sublets and limits on maximum number of weeks per year (to stop people living in them 365days/year) are also usually restricted from what I understand (unconfirmed).
Perhaps a deal for some, but not most.

It probably makes good business sense, in these credit-crunch times.
Park could leave these vans empty and make no money on them, or give them away and have the site fees coming in on a regular basis.
They'd also benefit from having the vans regularly occupied because the people staying there would be spending money on site, in the bar etc..etc.
