A little childish in my opinion and not ideal for someone who wants to do some serious running. A freebie is a freebie and I am sure some will find this of use. Heat OP.

i found this very motivating, the story gets better as you go along and it encourages you with resources to build your own town.
town building thing quickly becomes ignorable but story narration on missions does make you want to run more and the interval training - outrunning zombies by speeding up by a configurable % at user-defined frequencies - is a good push.
full android version has been free for a long time but makes you either unlock extra missions (of which there are a LOT, 15-20 per season and up to 6 seasons) on a once-per-week basis or pay for a pass that adds loads of challenges and 5/10k races, interval training, "airdrops" (where you can specify where to run to and back) and more.
for those that criticize it for not being a 'proper' fitness app it has all sorts of options for run length and zombie chase speed/frequency, music support for in-app or external playlists and will give you all the distance, speed & time options plus breakdown per KM and maps you can share on FB but doesn't do elevation. does have various step or average speed options too so you can use it on treadmill.
