No wonder some look down on those who truly suffer from depression - that feeling that even stepping outside or taking a shower is like climbing Everest, where you're in such emotional pain you can't get out of bed because you're exhausted - nothing brings you any joy.
It hits like a sledgehammer, it is horrific to go through and anything that helps to work through the episodes and lift the burden is is worth its weight in gold. Depressives have to hide and pretend everything is okay, because some think it's just laziness.
At your worst you're struggling to stay alive, agitated, battling horrific dreams and self destructive, self hating thoughts. Not only that but there's shame and isolation that stops people from asking for help. It can kill you.
I wish I could just "pretend" for a few carefree days off from life - you can't choose, it chooses you.

That's for the alternative audible download option (which is a complete audio transcript of the book Text )
The Kindle Book With The audio option is free
as Amazon have published on their site.
I haven't loaded the book onto my kindle yet
but there will be a link to the audio track contained
somewhere in the book as it is included in the free
purchase of the Kindle book.

I pretended I was depressed once just to get out of doing something I didn't want to do  a horrible job/ course - which was, however, stressful (which is not the same as depression).
Doctors were remarkably unsympathetic (perhaps they saw through me? I don't think so, I just said I was feeling depressed).
I got sleeping pills - I was genuinely waking up @ 2am and not getting any more sleep, so that was fair enough - I liked sleeping pills - they were very good - so I stopped them after 3 days. You could easily get addicted. Better than booze, in a way.
The anti-depressants are supposed to kick in & work after 2-4 weeks but as I was a complete con I decided to stop them after a couple of days as well, can't say I noticed anything different whilst I was on them.
Based on that, I reckon everybody declaring themselves depressed is probably just looking for a way to avoid that stressor as well
I just stopped the stressor and cut out the drugs.

OK, I've downloaded and looked at the book. There are indeed a few links toward the end of the book (I cannot provide the link as all contents of the book are copyright protected as outlined at the beginning of the book), to some exercises etc.

I faked depression once, now I'm an expert. Is that what you're saying? Vile.
Lucky you, you got free drugs and were able to remove your 'stressor'.

Quite the opposite, I'm no expert. But I have seen depression in other people and essentially there often does seem to be a cause ie the stressor.
The feeling of being trapped in a terrible situation with no way out. An awful relationship. An unbearable work situation. Poverty. Bad life choices. Unloved & unlovable. Life not worth going on with etc
All those situations are reversible and that is what I mean by removing the stressor.
Taking drugs to feel a bit happier without removing the sressor is no solution, it is just dealing with the symptoms but not a cure.

Sorry but I think that is just naive.
If you have never really suffered from depression you do not understand it. Simple as that.
What you are saying is akin to the people who tell depressed people to "cheer up", as if we go oh yeah, I never thought of doing that! All better now.
What you are saying about removing the stressor does not take into account how a depressives mind works. We cannot just do that. Our brains are hardwired to not be able to think like that, even with drugs, the drugs are there to make life bearable, they do not make you happy.
Saying you tried anti-depressants for 2 days and didn't notice a change is ridiculous when you even stated you know it takes 2-4 weeks to start working!
Think of it like this, your brain is not capable of moving objects with only a thought, no matter how much you try and how many people tell you "go on, just do it" it will not work. This is what a depressives brain is like except they are incapable of "cheering up".
I have tried meditation and books such as the one posted here but my mind cannot concentrate and gets frustrated which in turn just makes it worse. It may work for some but it is not for everyone, I suspect that the people it does work for are not suffering with long term clinical depression, or for it is not a instant cure but more a relaxation technique which just helps get you through the day.

Unfortunately, it's now saying £2.86 which obviously isn't much - but not free.
I do agree with Satan_Claws depression is truly and completely awful. For me it's something I've battled with most of my life and not sure I'd like to go into the why's and wherefores on a public site. I so wish it were a case of taking some pills and voila! It's a complex disease which sometimes doesn't have a specific trigger and can and does permeate every nook and cranny of life - sadly. I wish you well Satan_Claws you sound like you know what you're talking about, unfortunately so do I

Jesus wept. You just can't imagine an irreversible situation can you? Sometimes that simply isn't possible. The only person that was resorting to drugs was you; for your fake depression.
Go and live a little and come back in a few years.

I was genuinely very stressed & fed up with life - but that's not the same as depression.
Why do you think so many teachers are leaving their profession? They are removing the stressor
I suggest that is the simplest way to cure your depression - give it a try at least.
Of course most situations are reversible - not necessarily easily done.
The best short sharp shock I had was that unsympathetic doctor just laying it out so clear:
'giving you pills isn't going to remove the root cause of your depression - the only way you can dop that is by removing or changing the stressor'.
Sound advice, thanks Doc

One of these two things is a lie. I know which my money is on.
Why don't you just stop digging? It gets more offensive by the minute.

Yes - you are indeed being very offensive, calling me a liar as a silly insult.
You should be ashamed of yourself, you get a kick out of being mean to other people for no good reason? What a fine human being.
It's all true, ie I was genuinely very stressed but I don't call that depressed - what's so difficult to understand?
