Just had an email about this. Starting on Friday, Ancestry users get free access to UK military records for 3 days. We used this last time to find out about my Great-Grandfather's WW1 service.
Small print:
Access to the records in the featured collections will be free from 11-13 November 2016. To view these records you will need to register for free with Ancestry.co.uk with your name and email address. After the free access period ends, you will only be able to view the records in the featured collections using an Ancestry.co.uk paid membership.
** Apologies for putting this in Deals - this should be in Freebies. Could a mod move it across please? **

This is England and Wales only, not UK. Please amend the description.

Currently taking advantage of the 4 months for £20 deal, which is proving very valuable, so I don't need this but if anyone is tempted please, for the love of god, quadruple check everything you put in your public trees, and octople check everything other people have done. There's very few trees I've found that aren't littered with errors, some blatent. Unless one of my ancestors did marry his own daughter and sire himself, in which case I'll take it back.
Findmypast.co.uk also have a similar military offer, FWIW.

Nice one OP, hope to find info on my grandfather who fought with the British in WW2, like tens of thousands of other Sikh soldiers..

Still have to pay to join..............doesn't appear to be free as it's demanding my credit card details.
