I took Sophos home off my windows laptop as it created more problems than it solved!

it is very important to make sure you don't have any other security software or antivirus installed on your machine already, including Microsoft's own security essential suite, as this creates more problems, in that scenario it seems PC performs better when you uninstall the antivirus. in simple terms do not install 2 antivirus on one host.

I have used this at University and at home for years. My anti virus software of choice and I totally recommend it if you haven't tried it yourself

I work in a school using Sophos as it's main antivirus solution. I thoroughly recommend sophos home for most people because it doesn't nag and you can control family content settings via the web interface for free. I don't know if it is the best but for nothing for a full no nag antivirus and content control it takes some beating, but, echoing Xpert_1 you have to remove all other antivirus software before installing or else it will cause problems.

secondly this is the only Free Managed Antivirus i know of, you can manage up to 10 home machines from a single web browser, how cool is that ..

With all the scams and lowlife on the internet, you would be stupid not to protect yourself - especially when it's free. Been using this and it does warn me when any dodgy emails arrive. Highly recommended

I'd advise not posting in the 'freebies' section of the site in future then.

Loads of programs are free, especially anti-virus software. You'd be daft to pay for it (for home use)

I'm a big fan of Sophos from using the enterprise product going back 18 years ago. However i'm not sure i'm keen on having to use a web based portal for home use but trying it out to see how it goes. Currently I use Kaspersky free through Barclays but sometimes that can be a pain in the ar$e for being overbearing trying to install software.
