EdX is quite respectable in the academic community, connecting to real top universities and courses taught by established professors in their fields, with the content FREE (although you may need to pay for a certificate of completion.

I highly recommend EdX, although FutureLearn is my favourite (www.futurelearn.com). :smiley:

They all seem to be foreign Universities, so not sure how much weight any qualification gained would carry here. i.e. could the credits if any, be used towards qualifications at U.K. based institutions. If it is just being used for a bit of knowledge sound fine.

I know a bit about edx, currently doing 6.001x course from MIT there.
All courses are free to audit, i.e., access videos and materials; however if you want a certificate of accomplishment you would need to pay a fee and get a verified (with webcamera verification) digital certificate from the course provider. These fees vary from course to course. Some courses are self-paced and can be done at your convenience, while others have start and end dates, and thus you also have deadlines to submit your assignments.

Is there a way to filter to find all the free courses? Found one I was interested in and then discovered it was $500.. OUCH

This is a good service. I'm working my way through a Python course.

If you login to coursera website you can get free courses their too. Click on sample/Audit course and it's same material as paid version just no cert at the end. They have an apple and Android app which helps.
