Thanks a lot for posting this, I would've had no idea about it. Tested it out on my Macbook for an online Fifa match (pretty laggy - on 720p and high framerate), Sleeping Dogs (perfect) and Driveclub (also perfect, offline).

Informed my girlfriend that I'll now be able to play GTA in bed and she was quite clearly thrilled... :smiley:

I am gonna give you the benefit of the doubt here. I have recently switched back to PC gaming after many years of console gaming. In my opinion certain PC titles are tricky without controllers, since many are designed to be best played using a controller. I have a PS3 not a PS4 so cant try this at all. However I spent several unsuccessful hours trying to get a PS3 controller working on a PC no success. In the end I just abandoned it and bought a Xbox 360 controller complete with receiver, which worked straight away out of the box (all drivers automatically installed on windows :sunglasses:, so I am enjoying hours of happy gaming on the PC once more. If this tip does indeed allow you to connect a PS 4 controller to a PC for gaming then bravo. Heat OP.

Oh you are having problems with lag as well?
I personally don't think it's anything to do with the internal network, if mine is anything to go by. My internal cabling was installed by a professional and has nothing wrong with it, so that's how I knew it couldn't be that.
Mine could be the router (getting a new one in a week, so I will see on that then).
Or it could be my pc, or it could be settings, which I thought you were alluding to with your first reply.
As others say that it can work absolutely perfectly, I can't see what else it can be, but I'm always open for new ideas.

Yeah Ive only got the one phone line with BT router connected, it's the wrong side of the room for the TV so I have a 20 meter RJ45 running around the room to connect to a TP-LINK dual band router that connects my You view and consoles to the Internet. Upstairs I have a netgear range extender to boost the signal from the TP Link router connected to my TV and other console. I've tried hard wiring at least one or the other (laptop or PS4) to each and running the other on wifi and still get issues........ BT are only providing between 1-11 mb dependant on the time of day.

Fair enough I never considered having both your PS4 and computer wired to the same router because it doesn't really take advantage of the entire remote play thing, for example your PS4 is connected to your TV but also your router, then your computer is connected to your router too, unless your using a 20 metre cable then you are literally sat next to the TV your PS4 is connected to whilst playing it on your PC?? To me remote play means my PS4 is hooked up downstairs and I use my laptop upstairs to play it, meaning one of them has to be on wifi not home network, that's what I initially think when it comes to remote play.

So why do Sony say "High-speed Internet connection
For best performance, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 12 Mbps." if it isn't a factor? Does this not sound like the PS4 works over the Internet not your home network? If it worked over your home network would 99% of people not have pretty solid connections?

I see you already have had the conversation about which I was thinking. I must admit chris, I couldn't work out why you were asking me about my upload and download speed, I presumed you meant something about my PS4, not my internet connection.
I had completely assumed that the connection was over the internal network, that's why I was surprised that I had lag.

I probably need to do some more reading on PS4 remote play, how it works and lag.

The speed of your home network is dependent upon the Internet connection isn't it? If you have a 200mb router but your Internet provider only gives you 12 mb then you can only get 12 mb whether wired or wireless.

In PS4 goto system settings > Network > Network Test.
It will show you an estimate of download/upload speed of your PS4

Doesn't speedtest just give the speed of your internet connection though? The PS4 streams over your home network which, unless you have an extremely fast connection like 200mb Virgin Media or similar, will always be massively faster than your internet connection.

Bad lag on mine, tried wrc rally, pinball and GTA V, all unplayable. Just enough of a lag on the controls to not make them fun to play.
Wired network as well. Not sure if it's my pc that is the problem, or that is just how it is.

This is really irritating, all I get is "Cannot login to PS4."

Works a treat on my PC through house LAN.

I imagine network connection as that will determine whether your running it in 360p or better.

Are the results going to be proportional to the power of your pc/graphics card? Or it more about the quality of your network connection?

Wouldn't be surprised if this chip was upgraded on an updated PS4 then, 1080p/60fps streaming would be great. Given Sony's track record of future proofing (i.e with blu ray and graphics chips on PS3) I would of thought they would of put a chip capable of 1080p remote play on the PS4.

It's a nice feature though it is a little disappointing that the maximum resolution is limited to 720P. I could understand that limitation for streaming over the internet but a good home network over Ethernet, or even powerline should have no problem at all with 1080P. Hopefully something Sony will add though as Sony are getting a track record for launching things then immediately dropping support for them I wouldn't hold my breath. Still having a 60fps option for smooth motion is a nice touch....

I personally haven't managed to get this to work properly, installed all windows updates but all I get when it connects to my PS4 is sound and no picture on my laptop. My laptop is about 6 years old though.

Works great on my laptop.

Hot for me. I dont play PS4 I have xbox one (look no hate in my post!) One of the biggest things for me was the windows 10-xbox link allowing me to stream my console to my PC/laptop. My xbox is connected to the main TV in the house so, if I wanted to play xbox and there was something the other half wanted to watch on TV I usually lost! Streaming is a great addition to console gaming and if PS4 is even half as good as Xbox streaming you are in for a treat.

Does this work with a DS3 controller or only DS4?

Love my pstv, i have it in my bedroom connected to big tv on wall, i pick up my controller, press the PS button which turns on my TV. one more click and i am controlling my PS4 which is downstairs. When i go down stairs i can pick up the controller and carry on from where i left off upstairs and vice versa, oh and i get to plat vita games on the big screen. But love this upgrade too, Kudos Sony

As a PS Vita owner, glad I held off on buying the now even more redundant Playstation TV now finally this firmware is available.

Hopefully it's better than xbox streaming that used to be crystal clear but now has a blur. (Wired cat6 networked devices so don't give me that)

Just to say thank you again OP, I wouldn't have noticed this in the update. It's a fantastic feature. Other than Call of Duty, all games work very well on my 6 year old laptop (Call of Duty is just a bit laggy). So, thank you very much!

Just tried it, My connection disconnected once I unplugged my controller.. might just be me. My laptops on wifi and so is my PS4 and it's an okay connection, can't play anything which requires minimal lag. I'll try connecting via ethernet and see how it is.

I've personally not done it so I'm not sure but I know when using the PS4 controller normally and not for remote play it does work using bluetooth

I'm a bit lost on this, why is streaming to play on your pc a good thing? only thing I can think of is to record for livestreaming, but ps4 already has that built in

Does the ps4 and pc need to be sharing the same network? Eg both on the same wifi?
