Tom & Jerry Collectors Edition Vol 1- 6 DVD £10.99 with Free P & P @ zavvi. Love the descriptions of the characters on the zavvi website which are provided in very simple terms for those of us who just might not quite understand the story lines in the cartoons :astonished:
Jerry. A quick-witted, audacious little mouse who lives in the house with Tom, Jerry can never seem to stop himself from teasing his feline nemesis. His greatest pleasure comes from thwarting Tom’s every attempt to catch him.
Tom. An ordinary grey-and-white house cat of no great intelligence, Tom is driven by three goals: to eat, to sleep and to catch the mouse, Jerry, and eat him. Unfortunately, his plans are constantly stymied by the shrewd little rodent.

This collection features cut versions of the cartoons and also does not included all the shorts. Meaning the squences and cartoons that could be deemed inappropriate or racist have been removed. Including changing of Thomas' owners voice and depiction.
you may not be buying what you remember.
Tom and Jerry Golden Collections 1 features 30 of the cartoons as they were originally released and restored. this was meant to be a chronological set of all the cartoons released uncut. However volume 2 has not been released.

The quality isn't as good but youtube is stuffed with compilations of old cartoons. It does bear out your observation as , while i dont remember tom and jerry being particularly racist, i've been fairly shocked by some of the older cartoons...particularly popeye.
I believe the solution used in some of the tom and jerry edits is to remove the black housemaid character was to replace her with a white irish character who was equally stereotypical.
These older cartoons have had my kids in hysterics...we grew up watching them frequently but nowadays kids just dont have anything similar. Tom and Jerry have a run of longer cartoons and dvds at the moment but they are absolutely awful. Black and White and old style animation doesnt seem to bother my kids at all. Their all time favourite is mickey mouse haunted house (1929). Its just so weird and different it really appeals to them.

Totally agree I can't comment on Popeye but I know there is DVD rereleases and not sure if these are cut or uncut
Warner Bros did a great job on their looney tunes golden collection in this respect by leaving the 'racist' moments in but opening each DVD with a disclaimer and commentary by whoopi Goldberg explaining the cartoons are of an era where these sort of images were not deemed inappropriate and putting disclaimers on the box.
They did a less good job with those releases as they released about 360ish of the original looney toons across the 6 sets and then totally stopped and started again with a platinum collection which included a different mixture of cartoons some were added some were removed!
There are approx 1000 original looney tunes/merry melodies. Just want the full collection
in one place!

I heard the replscememt voice for the housekeeper and it is not as funny as the original voice. Spoils the cartoon somewhat. If you want the original uncut versions then you can get them on Cartoon HD.

Best and funniest ever cartoons by far. Only the older ones produced by Fred Quimby that is,not the more recent ones.

Got to agree, have really fond memories of watching these first as a kid with my Dad who was a huge fan (and still is for that matter) and even fonder memories of watching them again with him a few years ago and I still find them as funny and entertaining...one of those series of cartoons that I never seem to tire of :smiley_cat:

This collection contains 5 discs the 'complete collection' contains 6 discs i can't say what the differences are
i know both releases are based from the 1990s Cartoon Network TV releases and are not the show in its original form due to the cuts. They also removed several episodes and these are not included.
