You do all realize these cheap vinyl are from digital sources? And that it's pointless listening to these on vinyl? And evn though they are cheap, it's a waste of money? But you all knew that, didn't you? Oh, you didn't, oh...

Couldn't disagree with your post more. And the revival of vinyl has its issues with people. It's not annoying newbies who buy their crossleys and preach how their vinyl sounds better through the 2 x 1w speakers. It's the bitter people that vinyl collecting isn't their thing anymore.
Digital recording is used because theoretically if it's done properly would be completely indistinguishable to the human ear (it's more HOW people produce, now that it's more flexible we have some production values that people dislike, loudness war, heavy compression etc). I understand, and to a point agree, about digital remastering being an unneccessary extra step for the classics. But for new albums recorded digitally, vinyl is still a perfectly acceptable way to listen to these albums. It's a lossless format, that supports the artist better than streaming or spotify. Sure you could just listen to it on a CD, and if you're buying CDs that's great also. But for me, even if its becoming fashionable means that new releases by some bands are becoming cheaper. I buy a lot of albums in the £17-£25 range because that's whats profitable to them - so every time an album is £10, if the bands still making their required money and its economies of scale playing its part, I'm more than happy with it! I'm even happier when that limited release of an album I bought 5 or 6 years ago when it was only just on the rise is now worth £60/70 because of these people!
Accept and embrace. Buy what you want and let other people buy theirs, there's no real need to preach about whether something is pointless or not. Some people may even hang it on their wall and never listen to it. Who cares? The artist still gets paid, vinyl keeps getting made and everyone, should, be happy.

Zzzzz... Just let people listen to their music how they want to listen to it. It's more than just the format that's making vinyl popular again. It's nice walking into a record shop not knowing what gems you're going to find. To others it might be the kit! There's some stunning turntables/amps/speakers about now. Something you can take a bit of pride in as a collector.
Much more enjoyable than scrolling and clicking in my opinion but I can understand why it's not suitable for everyone. People like music for different reasons.

Evidence? Some of them no doubt are, but others won't be. And if you enjoy what you're listening to, and appreciate the experience (however the signal is sourced), it's not pointless at all.

These pressings are just to make money for the current vinyl 'fad' they are straight from the same source as the digital source or even the CD! You need to do your homework on which mastering and which pressings are the best, even from which plant they are pressed at makes a difference. Have a look on Discogs, you'll see what I mean.

Sometimes true, sometimes not. Some stuff is indeed just a vinyl printing of a digital master. Some stuff is absolutely not and has been mastered correctly. All that's required is research.

Thanks for posting, and hot because they are cheaper than elsewhere, but a vinyl collector should really be trawling in shops for the secondhand stuff (also more fun), and just not bother with new albums, because the sound quality means there's really little point.

I've found almost every old record shop I go to charge way to much for old vinyl these days. It take hours to trawl through everything and when you do eventually find that record you've been looking for it costs four times the price of a nicer copy on eBay.
I use a combination of Discogs and eBay now to find the best deals for older records.
That said new release records are cheaper in my local record shop than on Amazon.

10 Oct 17#64
That's not strictly true. Some of the new pressings are much better than the 2nd hand. Technology and quality has improved, you have to know which vinyl masterings and pressings are the best. Some of the latest pressings are much better than old, you just need to know what you're looking for

One word of warning about buying some records from amazon is not to be tempted by the warehouse deals section unless it is 'Like New'. It used to be great and sometimes they make it clear what the problem is 'bent corner' etc. But the last 3 I've recieved that weren't Like New were all unplayable. Their returns are easy, so if you can be bothered with that, then you can take a gamble. But it is a bit of a gamble these days!

Agreed - amazon warehouse is completely useless - it's basically faulty goods they're still trying to shift. From vacuums to vinyl I've never had a single decent purchase from there and have stopped using.

While its £12.99 so not quite the bargain its still a fantastic album.
You have to turn records over, difficult lifting the arm to select a track, you get the pop & click and they take up a lot of space. The player has to have a weight of 20KG. The needles need replacing and they are not cheap.
Still have a collection of vinyls from years ago, the covers were nice and big but I no longer have a player. My Technics play could auto-select from 33.3 and 45rpm. Even have loads of tapes.
In the 21st Century, I prefer to store my music on an ssd drive plugged into my av amp.

Is this cheap for vinyl, honest question as I do use it but just buy from local second hand place for about £2 average for old stuff that plays as well as it did when it was made by old I mean the 1980s or Jazz and yes I know these are new but just curious if this is the going rate now ? also by 12" vinyl do you mean 12" single as anyone who grew up with vinyl would automatically think or is it an album?

The above are all albums.
Anything below £10 for a new 12" vinyl album these days and I'd say you're doing pretty well. Most of the latest releases on vinyl range from £15 - £25.

So to be clear when you say 12" you actually mean LP rather than 12" being usually a remix single when this stuff first did the rounds

That's still the common terminology. 12" and 7" almost always refer to singles. Saying a 12" LP is pretty redundant since all LPs are 12". But people still insist on saying "vinyls" and then get arsey if corrected so what can you do.

I'd like to know where you can get decent second hand vinyl LPs for 2 quid. A few years ago you could pick them up cheap but now everyone's got wise with the vinyl revival and you'd be hard pushed to find much decent for less than a tenner. A lot of new pressings are at least 18 quid with many 25.

I'd buy a used Hifi from eBay. I recently picked up a Kenwood M97 from eBay for £100. A new needle and a cassette heads and it sounds as good as the day it was made in 1992. I've also added a Revo Axis 3 which brings it more up to date with bluetooth connection, iPod lightning dock. Dab, Dab + and internet radio. Which now costs £99.99 from Amazon, just connect it from the speaker output on the Revo and connect to the Hifi through the phono connections.

i've looked into it quite a lot the past couple of weeks. If you can stretch another £50 you can get the Pro-ject Debut Carbon (299) and Pro-ject Phone MM box (£60) from Sevenoaks Hifi. Alternatively the Rega Planar 1(248) with the Pro-ject MM box (60) or the Rega Phono preamp (80). There are a few deals around - even the NAD C556 (199) and Pro-ject should make a good deal.

I've started to invest in Vinyl again, the only issue I have is that most of the new LP's are made from Digitally remastered sources. So you don't get the original analogue sound of the old albums.
