I've been looking for fibre recently and have just come across the £24.99 no setup fee 12 month contract with Plusnet and found there's £70 cashback too, bringing it down to £19.15.

There's also a 76mb connection for £29.99 which has £85 top cashback bringing it down to £22.90 however for me the fastest speed was only 40mb because of my area so took the 38mb instead.

The basic fibre package is only 2mb upload. As explained on this old thread here:

But Plusnet live chat also just confirmed this :disappointed:

Comparing 38Mb Fibre Broadband packages - Is there a real world noticable difference between the upload speed PlusNet offer of 2Mb compared to nearly all others at 10Mb?

Noiw includes £50 cashback on the 38mb package.

BT Fibre deal is SO much better. Unlimited Infinity 1 + Unlimited Weekend Calls - £29.99/month

But you get £125 Reward Card (£50 activation + £9.99 Hub delivery) + cashback of £70 (although mine has tracked at £80!!). Also you may also get £40 M&S gift card. Note you have to claim for both, not automatic.

12 month contract, so just change after that.

So net of £184.87 for 12 months, or £15.40 per month :sunglasses:

Lol! I left BT for Plusnet. Plusnet have been great for me. 4 years why them now.
liamwheldon to Sphere
4 Oct 17 #47
That's great, except I'm with BT so can't get a decent deal. Minimum they'd offer was £26. Better off leaving then going back next year. The ironic thing is that we left plusnet for BT because they wouldn't offer a better price. Just a back and forth game.

Btw I've changed my changeover date to 1st November and now but charges will be removed. Just worth making sure you change over contract the day after contract else they'll rebate you a £1 or £2 and charge you £65 no option to just leave the £1 or £2 and not get a charge

I tried this but while I see the £29.99 price on click-through, it then increases to £37 odd once in the contract stage. Not sure why, maybe as I was a previous customer back in 2014.

It's due to you exchange, your connected to one that's not classed as a low cost exchange.

They should make it a lot clearer, I called the regulator before about it but true to form they couldn't give a sh#t

It's buried in their small print, I'm not even convinced it does cost them anymore to connect your line and not sure other providers charge them as extra

plus.net/hel…uk/

BT charge them more blah blah...radio silence

Well, folks, I'm real tempted. I'm with Virgin at the moment, and have issues at peak times with congestion and issues with ping spikes at all times (due to their flawed modem).

I get a pretty reliable 200 down 15 up, so it really is just down to lost packets and dodgy ping.

I had BT and got 41Mbps down in practice last year, and 6 up. I can live with that. Speed is less important than reliability, even though I'll kinda miss the speed.

But I can't really live with less. So I'm inclined to go back to BT, but I'd really like to give Plusnet a shot.

Are they regularly slower than BT? I would have expected that to be a bit dodgy if BT is wholesaler?

Been with Plusnet about six months, great company, any problems soon resolved, use their, (EE) mobile too, great price and solid signal. Only downside is their routers not so good, reconfiguered the old BT hub and the wireless signal is far better. BT must keep a hold on its top speed offers for pure BT customers, they could guarantee me 76 meg on Infinity 2 but Plusnets top speed was only 42 meg so opted for the 38 package, think unless you live in a big town thats all you will get. Great price.

I'm with Plusnet and have bren using a BT Smart Hub, with no problems on their 76Mb service. I found this post, by someone on Plusnet's forums, very useful in setting it up:

3 Oct 17 #36
Very easy to reconfig, just go to the plusnet router page and copy the settings, then switch on the BT router and replace their settings with the Plusnet ones. i was suprised how easy it was, last time i was with Bt a few years ago, after i left they locked the BT router so it could not be used with another server
tfish to neilc
3 Oct 17 #39
Yeah real easy. You just plug the cable in. He's just trying to sound cool on the internet.
liamwheldon to moorjock
3 Oct 17 #18
Exactly the same here, 42mb on 76mb connection or 34mb on the 38mb line. BT have me 42mb all the time for similar price but aren't offering any kind of retention deal, even when Vodafone were offering £24 for 76mb, they didn't even blink just a flat £32 a month.

I'm planning on using my BT router instead too sure to reviews. Did you just use the BT one in router mode or did you use it in modem mode?
moorjock to liamwheldon
3 Oct 17 #35
It cost me to leave BT, i just gave up arguing with their call centre staff refusing to put me through to a supervisor and telling me lies about so many things, They even refused to believe i had a hub 5 as they said i was sent a smart hub, then when they checked my settings they accused me of swapping my new hub for an older one ! Why?? Anyway, the hub 5 works better for wireless range than the Plusnet one, tried using it as a router but using it as modem gave a better signal, the weight difference between the BT and Plusnet version is very different, must be a lot more gubbins in there

I thought plusnet updated their deals every Wednesday but they still say seven days left to run.

Also if you take the 12 month contract and decide to take the TV package from them afterwards which runs for 18 how do they work that out.

They used to give you a discount for taking 18 months but the price seems to be higher

That's interesting, just had an email from BT to say they'll be rebating me £4 and charging me £65 for equipment!! All because I've chosen switchover date a couple of days before end of the month. This is after I'd already phoned them and they said I would get any charge If I changed to another as I will have already paid the last month. So I'll be giving them a call later...
Adam786123 to liamwheldon
3 Oct 17 #23
I'm guessing the £65 is the charge for not returning their router.

3 Oct 17 #25
Your new provider will likely cover these charges , someone came up with a thread on here recently ... I'll have a quick search for it now for you.

Here it is , only seems to apply when switching to EE ,SKY and BT ........

If you are not able to get Early termination Fees refunded by your new supplier (check with them first , preferably with written proof) then is it possible to amend your switch date at this stage to avoid the charge ?
MacPhisto to liamwheldon
3 Oct 17 #33
Just tell them to send you a pre-paid label and box to send their equipment back and they can have it. New provider will be sending out their own modem/router anyway. Even if you want to keep the BT Hub just call their bluff and tell them they can have it back

I signed up for this package in June when it was £50 cashback through TCB. There was an error on Plusnet's part where they cancelled everyone's cashback by mistake, but I raised a ticket on TCB and ended up getting it back pretty quickly. Had no issues with the internet at all in the nearly 4 months we've had it.

Great option but I'm confused as to why we have to pay the first month broadband when the earliest I can schedule an engineer is in 2-3 weeks time? Will my 12 months start from when the broadband is installed?

I noticed this too, but can only assume that we pay in advance instead on in arrears as it definitely said no setup fees and 12 month contract

2 Oct 17 #7
Does this include free phone calls?

What happens after the term of the contract, does the price go up?

What real world speedtest.net speeds have people been getting on wireless?
liamwheldon to Picard123
3 Oct 17 #15
It doesn't include free calls as far as I saw, however, I didn't check as we never use I it anyway lol

After the contract ends, it goes up to £32.99 a month
liamwheldon
3 Oct 17 #14
I thought I'd just add too, if you want you can achieve the same price without cashback by taking out the line rental saver! I only opted not to as last time I did that when I joined BT and it meant I couldn't leave when they changed the prices, else is loose out.

I recently renegotiated my contract. Now paying £25/month for 76Mb Fibre (price matched Vodafone at the time).
They had to send out a £50 cheque as part of the cashback to effectively match the above mentioned offer but that was received within a few days.

No issues with them whatsoever. Speeds are great at all hours (unlike Virgin). We're regularly eating through a minimum of 1-2TB/month.
I have no experience with the router they provide as that gets changed out for an aftermarket one within minutes of installation.
sunnydurian
2 Oct 17 #2
I just left PlusNet. They didn't honour the cashback advertised on their website. They claimed that the £70 cheque had been sent and had been cashed in. But in fact i dint receive it at all. Been waiting for the cheque arrival for more than 6 months. They just ignored me when I chase for clarification when and how the cheque have been cashed in if I didn't receive it. They just said the marketing team cannot provide further information.

So nothing I can do except leaving this poor company as soon as my broadband contract end.
