Anyone know how this compares to the Proliant gen 8? I prefer the look and size of the gen 8 but wondering if this is superior in processor power or anything else?

Expandability is obviously an advantage in this. This supports recent lines of Intel processors, so yes, it will be faster if you compare to the MicroServer Gen8 (with G1610T)
This G4400 also support VT-d, which is very useful for people running virtualisation. The Gen8 G1610T doesn't.
Having said that, a lot of Gen8 users upgrade their CPU to Xeons. I'd recommend doing the same to this ML10 Gen9 to get some proper power out of it.
Unfortunately, HP decided to lose iLo in ML10 Gen9, which is a downer.

Cheers for the info!

Lack of ILO in the new bottom tier Proliants is a real shame and the reason I'm hanging on to my ML110 G7 for now.

I'm assuming you mean the Microserver. You get a higher max amount of RAM and a Pentium with an actual intel GPU and not the shoddy mistake HP made by stripping out the GPU. I'd say this is an actual modern Gen 8. Has displayport so easier conversion to HDMI.

Thanks yeah I mean the Microserver, looks like this is probably the better option!

What mobo is in this? Will it flash to allow 7th gen processors like G4560?

I believe it's their own custom mobo.
For official compatible CPU upgrades, see page 18 in their Maintenance and Service Guide. Looks like only Skylake listed. G4560 (Kaby Lake) isn't listed there. Not sure if HP has a bios update for this, as the C236 chipset is certainly capable.

Does this support real raid and not that software bs on Micro Gen8?

I still have the N40L,
I presume this will be a better HTPC due to CPU alone!
No ilo - makes you wonder the point. V-pro is not a viable alternative.

Hmm interesting may get one of these to run as a plex server should do fine running 1-2 streams on that cpu no problem. Wondering what the idle watts are for this myself.
Ordered this and in the end had to claim money back.
Yodel claimed they had delivered, but I was there waiting for them. They said they had GPS proof that they had delivered to my house, and had a signature (which was not mine)
Please be careful when purchasing this item, Yodel will steal it !

Sorry to hear that but not sure what use my local Yodel driver would have a with a server.

Perhaps to sell it
Yodel and Ebuyer ran a full investigation , the outcome they kept to themselves

Is there anywhere else they may have delivered such as a similar name road nearby? Only reason I ask is that I know someone who gets it all the time with couriers who do not know their area with deliveries addressed to "Heath" and "Heather" roads, they are not even next road over from each other, but close enough that they can go and investigate when something is supposedly 'delivered'.

Some amazonian s got done too .. nicking £400 CPU and selling it on for £50 (bargain!) when investigating Him they caught two others as well. So.. Maybe the del driver threw over the garden fence or onto the Shed roof? or hes using it to house his pet guinea pigs :unamused: NB this would make a very good upgrade over an n40l maybe 2-3x cpu power

My dad has asked me to have a look at this server as a potential desktop replacement, I have one of the T140 Lenovo machines myself and it is great as a desktop. only possible from the advice picked up on these forums. so I have a couple of questions about this machine?
What would be required to upgrade this to a fairly low end gaming desktop? I am thinking Hard drive, Sound Card?, More RAM, Graphic Card, Optical Drive and OS
What is the best graphic card around max £100 that offers the best value/performance?
