I'm still very dubious about these. The marketing seems very much like hype. The TV adverts for the old version, this model, made out they were the most amazing, super dooper, best cleaner there had ever been, etc, etc. If they were that bloomin brilliant why does the new model look like a complete redesign?

LOL, it's new and improved! The original Dyson was supposed to be the answer to everyone's prayers, just look at the current monstrosities compared to the simplicity of the original.

Kind of the point, always room for improvement (actually better), marketing opportunity (colour or number of bobbles on top) or make it cheaper to produce whilst upping the price (any Apple product).

So I have one as do my brother and mother and they are great although it does have a couple of Achilles heals. The battery lasts for ages, its very lightweight and what it collects off your floors is quite impressive. The problems the mk1 faces is anything that can jam it e.g. carrier bag may burns out a little plastic cog that drives the rollers. It does have a feature to detect this and shut the power off but it doesn't always work and its broken before you can reach for the power button itself. You can get a new cog for about £10 and it can be tricky to fit or a complete cog/shaft/bearings for about £20 iirc. The second problem is hair which gets wrapped around the brush roll and if not removed will melt the plastic around the bearings at each end cap or in the centre where the motor drives are.
I'm not sure if the mk2 has overcome these issues but its moved the battery from the handle in the mk1 to the base so that the top of the handle can slide collapse into the lower part of it for ease of storage. They have also improved the dust collection bin to make it more hygienic to empty.

2 Oct 17#23
Got one of these, it does a great job and very easy to use. As the poster above says, the rollers do end up with hair wound around them, so you end up having to cut the hair out every now and again (something they dont show in the advert!) but overall I'd recommend it. (Had a compact dyson cleaner before, and the suction was RUBBISH)

Sadly I have read a lot of rubbish in this thread about these cleaners. My wife has been through just about every cleaner there is. Meile Dyson & Panasonic are some of them. She has had two Dyson & they were great cleaners but they went wrong several times. I had to re connect the lead several times in spite of a loop to stop it being pulled out. Friends of ours recommended the Gtech. My wife bought the mk1 & she says it is the best cleaner bar none she has had. I would fully recommend this cleaner. Probably the best one out there.

Does it clean to the edges?
I have one made by Bosch but it is very similar to this, but it does not clean to the edges. Also it is a nightmare to change to the hose so I don't usually bother. Suction when the hose is attached is inadequate.
The new version of this is advertised as being able to suck up larger bits off the floor, which suggests that the old version has a problem with sucking up larger, heavier bits. I also had that problem with the Bosch.

There's a comparison video with a Dyson DC59 and the Dyson slaughters the Gtech. So that put me off too. The Dyson cost double at the time and has a runtime of 6 mins or so versus 40 mins on the Gtech. The Gtech would drive me crazy though. I would hope the Dyson V6 and V8 are even better than the DC59, I'll need to go look at reviews.

She is going quite fast though and the cereal is quite big. I think this effect is called snow ploughing and I believe shark has got a solution to it with a 2nd softer roller on the front which is mounted slightly higher to grab the bigger bits. I don't think that shark was cordless though, the new bendy cordless one might have this feature but its about double this price.

I have the Mk2 Air Ram Gtech and it's great and covenient almost daily use, but I still have the Dyson in the garage and it comes in every now and then to do a proper clean. You really can't beat a powerful beater roller for domestic carpets. If I had all hard floors and no carpets I wouldn't need the Dyson.
The problem of hair round the beater roller is not only for Gtech, it affects every vacuum cleaner that has one. My wife and my teenage daughther both have long hair and cutting their hair off the beater rollers is a regular chore.

The suction on these is next to nothing. Okay on a carpet as the brush bar agitates the pile, but fine dust / dirt, especially in crevasses it's complete crap at.

A few months later it started making the noise again and we decided at this stage, after about 2-3 years, to take it to the recycling centre. It unfortunately doesn't seem to have the longivity as you would hope
