Don't feel safe how?
We did dover to Calais in the summer with our caravan and its fantastic. Organised and no hassle at all.
Free flowing roads in and out of Calais. Loved it and would recommend.

Good to hear. Is there much to do in Calais in a day? Or the 7/8 hours you're there?

Calais - I go to the big Carrefour near the Eurotunnel exit (google maps is good for getting around if you have free European data), there’s also the big Auchen supermarket - but that’s a bit downmarket - a bit like Asda. I’ve not found much to do in Calais so usually go elsewhere. We will often drive to Bruges (lovely) for a walk around and lunch then come home via Carrefour. Adinkerke is another day trip option if you want cheap tobacco.

Don't stay around Calais itself. There are some nice areas nearby such as the bay of Wissant (nice walk along the beach looking across to the white cliffs of Dover). The walled town at Boulogne is quite nice too.
For grocery shopping I like the big E Leclerc just outside Boulogne (Outreau I think it's called) although there are other big supermarkets much closer. There are also some decent outlet stores at the Cite Europe shopping centre near the Eurotunnel terminal.

What are you on about? They've been doing these deals for years.

This isn’t true - they’ve run this offer in off season every year for as long I can remember. They’re just trying to get more people on board who’ll buy food in the cafes and booze/junk from their gift shop. No different to hotels that offer good deals in winter to fill rooms.

Can you just have the wine and not have to go to France?

I’d prefer that too and I don’t even drink

T&C says "Excludes foot passengers, cyclists, minibuses, motorhomes, motorcycles, vans and caravan." It's a pity cause I was planning to have a 1day trip to Calais by foot.
