Phenom II plays LOTRO better than any FX chip, so cold.
Why?? The FX range is crippled by the lack of dedicated memory channels, it has to share one channel between cores, whereas the PII has a channel per core AND bigger on-die RAM caches.
YAY the FX can handle faster RAM, but that is no good if it cannot process the data that RAM is feeding it.
The test suites all give the FX a win over the PII, but in my experience, the FX needs a good 1GHz overclock just to match the PII in real life.
If anyone WANTS to upgrade a 1090T or 1100T to this POS, could I have your old cpu?? I accidentally killed mine (forgot to plug the pump back in when playing with my water cooling set up - and fried my 1090T

I have the phenom 955 and it cannot playback 4k video. Stutters and loses frames. From researching this 8320 should cover the gap. Also with player unknown battlegrounds it use up more of the cpu than I imagined and is unplayable even with an over clocked phenom. Did not look into the 1050 or 1090 but they are quite old now so not certain of their ability to handle what I mentioned.

Cheapest it's been so hot from me. I'd hesitate to recommend a whole new build with this, but if you have a motherboard and DDR3 RAM already (or can get them cheap), then it's still a very capable CPU and probably the best value/performance ratio available. I still use mine on Rainbow 6 Siege and Rising Storm 2 Vietnam (and most similar games for the last 5 years). I keep mine at 3.6GHz at 1.18v, occasionally going to 4GHz at 1.25v if I feel the need. Also have a 4.4GHz setting at 1.45v but I can't remember the last time I needed to use it.

@notos. I agree. Only worthwhile if you want to just upgrade your old cpu. New build go for ryzen or Intel equiv. And yes been looking for awhile and this is the cheapest it has ever been.

Yes depending on mobo compatibility. Wether it is any faster or not will depend on your particular requirements. It will be faster for some stuff, slower for others.

Think of the FX 6300 as more of a triple core and the FX8320 as a quad core due to their design architecture. The FX8320 is faster, depends what you want to do with it. Neither are great CPUs anymore but at this price it's a pretty good performer.

No. Save your money for a rebuild that avoids this terrible CPU.
You are wasting 70 quid on something that should simply not be purchased.
Put that 70 quid toward a new Ryzen R3 or Pentium G4560 (or the next in line replacement for the G4560).
You can get mobo+G4560 for about 130. you can get the R3 1200 + mobo for 170-180.
Also, maybe just wait for the Coffee Lake lineup to fully come out, you may find some real nice deals from both sides as stock needs clearing and competition reduces current pricing.

Mate check the tests! Under correct overclock this chip is either equivalent to i5 or even performs better than i5. And don't tell me this ******** about avg FPS, you need to look at 0.1% min, which shows the stutters in the game and you WILL get stutters with G4560!

Alright, so lets start with basics - anandtech.com/sho…n/9 It shows that IPC gain from Sandy bridge (the time when FX 8320 was released) to Skylake (the same architecture as Kaby lake) is around 25%. And here you go a video (non eng one, but all the numbers with 0.1% min are there) that shows comparison of Intel i7 2600 (4 cores 8 threads in comparison with your so loved G4560!) vs FX 8320 with overclocked memore sub-system:
And here you go an overview by Adore Video about improvements of FX performance in games just because it is 8 thread CPU (it is 4 module 8 thread hardware level SMT enabled CPU which allows getting 80% bonus from each additional core per FPU unit in comparison with 20% bonus given by logical SMT (i.e. Hyper Threading))
And guys, if it can compete quite well with i7 2600 only with memory sub-system overclock (it is its weak point as I mentioned before), it WILL wipe the floor with your G4560. And of course, it prob will show better average fps in some games, but you will get a "fun" stuttery experience with that office CPU.

1) You have not shown a review comparing the i5 to the 8320.
2) Adore TV is an absolute AMD fanboy (Or, worse, maybe he's a paid AMD sponsor). To accept Adore TV as a credible source is absolutely laughable.
3) FX 8320 does not have SMT. And even if it did, SMT does NOT provide anywhere near 20% improvement. You are making numbers up and multiplying them by other made up numbers.
4) I've not seen a review where the 8320 'wipes the floor' with anything. Again, try to find one. The G4560 isn't a 'stuttery office CPU' it's a great gaming CPU.

1) Well, how do you think i5 will show itself against i7 in modern titles? Here you go a comparison -
Which shows that on average i7 shows 14% higher avg FPS and 24% higher min fps => less stutters and jitters in a gameplay and so called very fluent gaming experience. Hence just subtract those 24-25% from i7 results i showed you previously and you will get i5 2500 results. Which will be of course lower than i7 2600. But to be fair I did not though that I need to explain such basics.
2) In that video he used data from another reputable sources. Can you prove that they are wrong? Saying that somebody a fanboy without a clear proof that that person is wrong is very unprofessional.
3) FX 8320 has so called CMT (Clustered Multi-Thread) - Here a good link tomshardware.co.uk/ans…tml. It doe show approx 80% increase in performance in comparison with 1 core (i.e. 1 additional core in the module adds approx 80% performance to that cluster). Problem was 5 years ago that all the games were able to utilise 1 or 2 streams, hence it was kind a big problem for FX 8320 with it's poor single core performance. But now games are readily using 8 threads and correctly overclocked FX 8xxx series are still managing to pull out approx 60 fps in newer titles.
4) I shared a test where FX 8320 with overclocked memory sub-system successfully competes with i7 2600. It is not my problem that you have ignored that.

Next in line replacement for the Pentium won't be here until next year when the budget 8th gen boards start coming out, as at the moment there are only enthusiast Z370 boards due along with the higher end (8600/8700) processors. I'd say it'll be worth waiting for for budget builders though, as it's likely to be 2 core 4 thread. The i3s should be up there with previous gen i5s, so well worth saving a bit of money and stretching to one of those if you can

As others say, the differences are very small; in fact the 6300 has a higher boost speed (I have one), and a better over clock potential due to thermal limitations within the chip (so not something you can easily fix with better cooling).
The older PII has much better single thread performance - no matter what the standardised tests claim; LOTRO is basically a 1.5 thread game and hits the cpu for 100% load in many areas; the FX simply cannot cope out of the box, and mine is overclocked to 4.6GHz to match the performance of my dear, departed 1090T (3.2GHz). It does become better than the 1090T at around 5GHz, but it is difficult to keep within the voltage boundaries and thermal limits at those speeds; best semi-stable OC I have managed on my FX6300 is 5.08GHz - water cooled. I suspect the instability might be the mobo chips over heating, so I have a new rig waiting to be built - if I can ever get my TGN under control.

Giving your opinion about the product is excellent and helps all who are looking to purchase that/similar product. But the voting should be based on the price. In comparison to everywhere else, it's at least around £20 or more cheaper. The FX 6300 is around £73 or thereabouts. I needed something like this as a replacement for my kid brother's PC. So I'm not gonna go and replace all the parts.

Guys, before you overclock any kid of CPU or GPU you have to understand what is it's bottleneck. And AMD bulldozer's architecture weak spot is it's memory subsystem, hence you need to overclock NB, HT and your memory, and only then overclock cores. If you overclock only cores, which can give +30-50% performance increase. If you overclock only cores, you will still end up with bottleneck and will gain 10-15% performance and a heater :joy:

I don't think anybody is suggesting buying it for a new build. Would make a good upgrade for somebody with FX-41xx or FX-43xx CPU. Might keep somebody going a few more years rather than having to splash out on a new mobo and expensive DDR4 ram.
The G4560 is a great CPU at £50-£60 but the only retailers that have stock want closer to £90!

Guys, you are damn crazy, you are comparing 2 core 4 thread (Not the same as 4 physical core) CPU with 8 core 8 thread CPU during multi core CPU era. FX 8320 will wipe the floor with G4560! And just a hint of advice, you should not look at average fps, it does not really show gaming experience. Look at min fps, as it shows actual possibility of stutters in the game, as you don't really want to play a game with average 80 FPS, but with spikes to 25-30 fps every 10 sec. + when youtubers test G4560, they test it on pure machine with no background tasks. So good luck running games on G4560 with web browser and skype turned on.

Do keep in mind that this isn't really an 8 core CPU. It has 8 integer units, but each of those units share floating point units and other gubbins with their twin, making this effectively only a quad core part. AMD faced legal action for this deception a few years ago.
Also, contrary to popular opinion (popular opinion within AMD fan forums, anyway), having a browser, Skype, or Teamspeak open has negligible impact in on performance, even when there's only a 2 core / 4 thread CPU. I mean, maybe their impact is more pronounced when you're using AMD parts, but normally, with a good Intel processor, an inactive browser and two channels of compressed audio won't pose an issue.

It’s ok as a replacement to many AM3+ cpus. I had a Phenom II 965 and found this was far better for games. But the stock cooler is quite noisy. Not ideal to buy this for a new system as mentioned above unless u r really on a budget and need to stick at £110 for CPU and mb with existing DDR3. Ryzen 3 1200 and A320 motherboard can be had for £135 @ Amazon (plus DDR4) The G4560 and motherboard can also be had for £135 from Amazon (plus DDR4) sounds about even depending on what u like to play unless multi core gaming becomes more important over the coming years (which appears likely to me) in which case The Ryzen is likely to pick up (and the Ryzen motherboard will be more compatible with future CPUs too if that matters.

Surely you can't recommend an Ryzen 3 1200 with an A320 mobo? That's goofy, the 1200 is designed to be OC'd while the A320 can't OC. Also, i can't find the 135 combo even with the a320.
Also, using the amazon price for the G4560 is a bit of a swiz, you can buy it from scan for 56 quid. You can pick up a cheap mobo for 40...
So we're talking 96 quid v 143 quid.
That's quite a significant difference.

It's the 8320, and yes, it's awful.
The piledriver and bulldozer chips were a terrible time for AMD, they absolutely dropped the ball with those chipsets.

It is a good upgrade for those people who have AM3+ or at least 16gb of fast DDR3 memory. With correct overclock (i.e. overclock of its North Bridge, Hyper Transport, RAM and only then cores (in Intel everything is tied up with your core overclock and overclock along with it, in AMD FX series you need to do it yourself, which kind of allows to get more from it)) FX 8320 will allow to use mid range card for next 2 ish years. And god damit guys, do look at min FPS like shown here -
or in any gamer nexus review, as it truly shows you gaming experience you gonna get. And any kind of 2 core 4 thread CPU is not enough for modern games

Minimum frames are very important, and that's exactly why you should NOT buy this CPU.
