this camera does not work without additional costs for a Cloud Storage Plan with EyePlus.

incorrect. takes 30 seconds to set up this camera ( like most of IP wifi cameras) using an app. i use MIPC app ( IOS). you dont need anything else if you just want 'live view'. if you want to record you will need to get a micro SD card.

Do you have this camera, the person you quoted had copied the text from the Q&A at the bottom of the screen. Gearbest are saying you need to purchase the cloud storage or the camera is unusable.

If you read the q&a at the bottom, somebody asked if you needed cloud based services and the sellers reply was what I posted

Icemint is true. We have a different more expensive camera which we use to monitor our 2yr old, and we have to use the MIPC app on Android to view it.
Might get this one as a security device.

That's wrong. If you want to use cloud storage then you are stuck with that one provider, but the sd card will store captured video which you can view for free worldwide via the free app

Does it record when it detects movement or constantly?

like most wifi IP cameras of this type (i use the IOS MIPC app), you can setup the camera to record when detects movement.

Is it manual pan & tilt or controlled via the app?

So just to be clear is I use a micro sd card I do not need to use the AWS Cloud Storage?
I just want to be able to remotely view using an android smartphone and access recordings on the micro sd. Which app would I need to use?

no sure how the Cloud storage works, i only have experience with the SD card ( i have 3 similar cameras and i have all of them with SD card, and i turn the 'record when detects movement' option when ever i need). No card required if you only want 'live view'. just plug n play! I use the MIPC IOS App ( works with most IP cameras and takes seconds to setup).

You should try an app called "ip cam viewer" that's a good one on android (and iphone) :sunglasses:

Another question to ask.....Are these actually any good? 1080p, motion detection, night vision, remote recording and monitoring all sound promising, but is the quality of the recording good?

Not tried this particular one but have a couple of cheap chinese 1080p rotating cameras (think I bought one off Amazon for £18) and they are ok. I used them connected to my Blue Iris one for my office and one for the baby's room. I'm 100% sure this camera is not Blue Iris compatible or compatible with any NVR as it doesn't support ONVIF or RTSP. You really are better off spending a few quid more and getting one that you can plug into a larger system in future if you want to.
As for the quality of these types of camera's: I have 1080p hikvision camera's as my main surveilance which I rate at 9/10 for video quality, these types of cameras I would give around 3 or maybe 4/10 max. They do the job but don't expect the world from them.
Also, note that the wifi protocol on most of these is pretty trash and won't work on some encryption types. Over wifi the video quality even next to a router is pretty poor, wired is better.

Just out of curiosity which Hikvision do you use for surveillance? And is it an outdoor one? I'm currently looking to replace a couple of Sricam 720p bullet cams with Hikvision but unsure of which model to aim for with regards to firmware updating being allowed on specific models etc..?

I'll reply better when I'm at a desktop but even the so called "non upgradeable" models can be modified to be upgradeable.
I've got 2 domes inside, 1 dome outside and one regular looking cam outside. I didn't buy them all at once so the newer ones have features that require newer hardware (such as multi line detection etc).
2 cameras were Chinese "multi language" and 2 were UK. UK ones much more expensive but after some hacking all are on the same firmware. Obviously UK ones need no hacking.

Anyone know if the video can be saved remotely eg. via FTP rather than the chargeable service people are talking about ?
