Unfortunately the crankshaft is vertical, so it would not work in a kart without some complex engineering to solve the transmission problems (otherwise I'd have done it). This is a good deal though, Wilko seems to have the same deal at the end of every summer, I bought one (same price) two years ago, and it works just fine. The engines are OHV (sort of Honda copy) so much better by design than SV motors (like B&S). The body is plastic, and will not last as long as a Honda, but it will probably be good for a decade before the UV light starts to make it too brittle. I have added some heat, this is not a new post in that it happens every year, but it is still a good mower at a bargain price.

A bit of welding and a couple of gears and i'm sure i'd have it mounted somehow

...it might be a bit more complex than you think cowboy! The biggest problem would be that the engine has to be mounted horizontally and with the crankshaft vertical because of the lubrication (it is a 4-stroke, so the sump has to be at the bottom). That means one would have to turn the drive through 90 degrees. Probably the easiest way would be a twisted belt, but it would not last long transmitting (say) 3kW. Other problems would be the lack of a clutch (maybe use an adustable pulley on the drive belt, like a 1905 motorcycle?), providing some sort of differential (maybe just power one wheel?) and modifying the carburettor so it was not a single speed engine.
I just though about the issues whilst cutting the grass (hopefully for the last time this year) with mine just a few minutes ago. I concluded that although it seemed like a good idea, it would be much easier to use a small mororcycle or moped engine that had the drive the right way up, a clutch (maybe some gears as well - a neutral would be really useful) and a variable speed carburettor.

Except the engine shaft is the wrong way really.

Is there anyway of doing a stock check on these? The last time a wilko mower deal was posted I went to the store and they said they hadn't heard of he reduction, yet others were posting they got the deal

Picked mine up at 8.30 am this morning from sunny Dagenham :sunglasses: Well pleased, it looks exactly the same as my 4 year old Tesco one, and that still starts first time, but a bit worse for wear. :innocent:

Sadly it was the last one
Long shot, but you could do what I did and phone Wilko CS tell them what you are looking for and they can tell you if there is one about?

Is there any way I can look up stock or is it a matter of calling round? Ta

As far as I know you have to phone one at a time. But if you call their Customer Service they can do it for you much quicker on their tracking system, that is my understanding.
