Might order it and bang Plex for single stream use.

Does this have 2x2tb drives or one four?

2x2GB WD Red inside. Unfortunatelly If you set it up as a mirror RAID you will get 2GB NAS only.

That should be obvious.

Thanks OP for posting. I usually backup to a separate hard drive, but this seems to offer alot more than that. I have gone to the link and read it, but still don't really understand it. It appears to have it's own operating system and memory.
Excusing my naievity would appreciate if someone could post what it is, what it can be used for and why this would be better than a PC prog just backing up to a portable drive?

In a nutshell, it's essentially a low end but very compact file server.

If I connect a USB drive to my computer, I can access the files on the drive from just that computer. If I were then to do some stuff to make my computer share that USB drive on the network, then my phone could read files on it, as could my laptop and a chromecast, so long as they're all on the network.
This device shares its local storage on the network so anything else on the network can access it, hence the name 'network attached storage'.
It has an additional benefit in that the two drives can be configured to mirror each other, meaning if one fails the other still has a full copy of all the data stored. Hard drives fail regularly so this is a massive benefit for backups.

If you plug a USB external drive into the router you can share files over the network to any device. USB to router

Helpful except your last para. Hard disks do not fail regularly and RAID is not a backup solution.

Poor choice of words, perhaps I should have said HDDs fail reliably, as in, they will always fail and it's rare that they live beyond 5 years old, especially in 24/7 use.
As for the whole RAID is not a backup thing, sure, it protects against one specific problem which is a HDD failing. It doesn't protect against a drunk you running 'select all, delete' or any number of other problems that a good backup solution does, but the context was a person with just one USB HDD where RAID would be an improvement.

Hey guys, if you are an idiot you could spend £286 at staples for the diskless version!
