Didn't really need it but at that price I couldn't resist.
Great drive (especially if you have a NAS) and a great price.

It's a shame it's a 7200rpm drive. The 200MB/s read speed it enables looks nice on paper, but unless you're accessing the drive locally or via 10gbit ethernet, you're going to be limited to around 100MB/s, meaning all the 7200rpm speed does for you is increase power consumption while also generating more heat and noise. Maybe that's the incongruity of this 'NAS drive' which has caused the drive to be marked down.

1.6 Gigabit should be enough. Lol

The 200 MB/s only for sustained transfers, higher rpm is still better for random reads and writes.

I was thinking the same thing. It will probably die a lot quicker than a 5400rpm drive too. Faster drives are not really necessary in a NAS imo but it will please all the spec monkeys. Heat added nonetheless

I know you may think that logically the numbers stack up on that theory, practically this is not true.

Would the 7200rpm speed enable faster random reads/writes?

Would you recommend 5400rpm drives over 7200 then?

Great spot! Would this be suitable as a secondary (data storage only) hard drive for a PC? Already have an SSD as the primary/Windows drive.

Good find. After two of my WD Red's packed up recently, I bought one of these from Amazon last week. £110.
While copying files back to it, it seemed quite noisy, but now it's in my nas, it's not too bad.

The 3 year warranty is what really makes this a deal. Remember kids, the warranty on your drives should be as long as you intend to keep them for. The 2 year ones on my 2TBs have run out and one's failed since, but 4TBs have become cheap in that time so I'm happy to replace it.

The 6TB drive is £149,99 and that's; cheap normally £170 to £180

RPM is only one factor, although it usually means faster than a 5400, it also comes down to data density; a "X" TB 7k2 with 4 platters will have read/write speeds below those of a similar 5k4 with 2 platters, as the lower rpm is more than compensated by the higher data density.
Having said that, modern drives are pushing the data density limit, so the difference between a 2,4,6 and 8 TB drive is usually the number of platters, so the 2TB will have 1x 2TB platter, the 4TB will have 2x 2TB platters etc.
I should just say I've added heat, my Tosh drives have proved very reliable, and all say they are Hitachi when queried by my advanced disk diagnostics program.

is this better than the wd drive that was 5400 rpm

Great deal for new and higher tier decent volume storage. Always had good experiences with Toshiba hardware myself, hard drives included, so would recommend. Rpm really matters more depending on drive uses, no issues with 7200rpm personally and power usage wise drives typically go into standby/power off when not being accessed for a while by default (unless u select otherwise) so shouldn't bring much difference imo.
