They are the same size as the netgear 1200 model I have at 12cm x 6cm

This is only av1200. You can get av2000 for similar price

the problem with this style is. what height are most plugs in the house low down and you need to stick a cable in that still
and they dont recomend adding these to extension bars

True, had that problem with the base input design with ours, couldn't use them in the 2 attic rooms where we needed them.

Yes it's quite bulky, but it runs cool - which can be unusual for these types of device - and it really is just plug and play. I haven't speed tested this yet but I'm really pleased with it, and you're spot on, the price is great for one of this specification - so many thanks! :grin:
