Hi luckyf, yes I've made summer dresses with this machine and it was enjoyable as machine so much easier than old singer. This machine wasn't so happy on some super heavy duty work, ie sewing two layers gortex fabric with padding. If you're looking for heavy duty machine my sister swears by Toyota super jeans machine

I got a singer sewing machine a few months back to take up sewing, and i really love the machine. So easy to use, seems very good quality and very good value. I don't know about this one, but the one i got is really lightweight, yet seem very stable and sturdy.
I would definitely recommend singer sewing machines.

I've had this model for a couple of years. I've had some issues with thread snapping and it takes a bit of time to get used to tension adjuster. The power cable is shorter than my older singer so if it's a gift maybe get an extension lead at the same time. Good range of stitches and attachments , eg changeable feet. Can't remember if it's got blanking disk enclosed for embroidery. All in all its a great machine with wide range of functions at a good price. Suggest you use gutterman thread rather than the spool of threads also often on offer at Lidl at same time as machines.
