yeah i tend to agree with you - waterproofing is one of those things which benefits 1% of people who are clumsy near water whereas 99% suffer with the lack of removable backs. only decent benefit seems to be build quality and design has improved, all plastic phones are a thing of the past for flagships
unfortunately it seems to be the direction all smartphone manufacturers are going these days. i wish they could go back to the note 4 days

Both my wife n I went for this one. Now selling off our s6 edge and edge plus to cover some of the cost. Great deal but if you like gear 've you have to wait for the new headset as samsung does not recommend this phone with the headset.

Sp0oner
9 Sep 17#106
Yes I looked at the right phone, I'm talking about the back of the phone. Felt light and cheap to me so might be aluminium but doesn't feel quality. Yes the screen is fantastic but for £869 I was hoping for something a bit more premium feeling. I know the tech inside it is top notch but I also want it to feel like and look like a premium item if i'm paying premium prices.
Samsung have also dropped the ball with getting rid of the removable battery in favour of waterproofing. Who the hell wants to drop it in a metre of water, real helpful and such a benefit  However a removable battery meant you got extra life out of the phone as after 2 years all phone batteries are seriously degraded. That is a lot more useful than being waterproof - in over 25 years of having mobile phones i've never dropped one in water but every single phone's battery has degraded between a year and 2 years of use/charging.
adamspencer95
9 Sep 17#105
are you sure you looked at the right phone? its a glass and aluminium build for the phone, no plastic, unless you specifically meant the S-pen...?
i had a look in o2 this afternoon and yes, i still think its too expensive, but i wouldnt say its badly (or cheaply) made or designed
Sp0oner
9 Sep 17#104
I'm glad I went and had a look today, it left me pretty underwhelmed especially considering the price. They have maintained an all plastic shell and it's horrible.
I also asked about the dual sim version and there was a Samsung rep there who confirmed the dual sim is only available direct from Samsung on their website and not sold via any networks/contracts.
I'll be sticking with my recently purchased P2 and will again look into how much it will be to repair my Note 4.

Kensirstagwaff
6 Sep 17#77
Depends how you look at it really:if you buy say oneplus 5 in U.K. It's £450 -500 ,then you need a sim of some description ,so that's £18.75 /month to play with . On contract ,it's not dissimilar to this for less data , and even a huawei p10 isn't cheap on contract . But as Judethedude2 says ,that's flagships for you,not just Apple/Samsung. Buying a flagship or not is a different discussion

Lol cheers! Mobiles.co.uk are part of Carphone Warehouse/ owned by Dixons group so the phones will be whatever carphone warehouse stock. I'm pretty sure they won't have a clue what they are getting until the stock comes in a couple of days before release. I'd put money on it they will all be single sim models as UK carriers just don't like dual sim phones.
Kensirstagwaff
6 Sep 17#75
Lol , didn't realise you meant that ! Because I am sad and had nothing better to do I contacted CPW who didn't rule out the dual sim version ,but couldn't confirm it : " we get limited supply of dual sim phones " which implies they do get some of some phones , so you never know , it might be worth asking , especially as Samsung are charging the same for either

SM-N950 simply means it's a Galaxy Note 8 - there will be several versions ,obvious two being Exynos or Snapdragon , but also regional variations which may affect frequency bands and things such as updates and fixes which might be sent to specific models and not others . Have a look at this ,droidmen.com/sam…es/ and ask the vendor for the specific model ,for peace of mind really ,as it is quoting relevant UK Lte frequencies .

Prices of mobile phones drop significantly after few months. Its always good idea to wait few months after release of mobile phones and then purchase them unless you have plenty of money to pay for latest mobile phones to get them on day of release to impress others. Thank you OP: ordered. Top Cashback tracked at £52.50. My current contract only has 2GB of data, so 3GB is more than enough for me (although I appreciate it may not be enough for most here). Subtracting the Cashback & the cost of my current contract (which I can cancel at 30 days notice), the cost of the handset works out at £550 (for me: other people's circumstances will differ), which makes it a no-brainer.

I don't think you'll fnd anyone is going for this deal for the data that is on offer.
More than likely the fact that with the cashback this deal works out £20 cheaper than buying the phone outright from Samsung and you essentially get the phone interest free for 24 months, which is great if you are already in a contract and want to spread the cost.
So the SIM card with 3gb and unlimited mins and texts is just a free bonus.

I just don't get it, mobile games are crap so you don't need it to be powerful, I'm never going to watch a TV series or a Movie on my phone when I have a lovely TV... so why do I need a big screen with such a high resolution. There is only so much you can do on a phone that's better than having another device.... it's a camera and tbh nothing tops the Nokia 808 still because they're all focused on having a big screen so they have to be thin. Then what.. you may listen to some music, browse the net for 5 mins and go on Youtube during your lunch.
I don't get how it's worth almost a grand, it doesn't do anything more than a phone from 2/3 years ago.

That is a lot more useful than being waterproof - in over 25 years of having mobile phones i've never dropped one in water but every single phone's battery has degraded between a year and 2 years of use/charging.
i had a look in o2 this afternoon and yes, i still think its too expensive, but i wouldnt say its badly (or cheaply) made or designed
I also asked about the dual sim version and there was a Samsung rep there who confirmed the dual sim is only available direct from Samsung on their website and not sold via any networks/contracts.
I'll be sticking with my recently purchased P2 and will again look into how much it will be to repair my Note 4.
I emailed Mobiles.co.uk and asked if they are unlocked and they confirmed that all their phones are shipped UNLOCKED ! apart from iPhones.
On another note, how portable is your gaming rig.... Yeah, didn't think so.
I tried one out for over 30 minutes on bank holiday Monday in Bournemouth, was able to have a good mess around with the camera and s pen,the staff were really helpful and encouraged me to play around with it for as long as I wanted.
Photo that I took of it in store.
However, the £50.50 is not showing up in my account. Do I need to wait a while? :persevere:
edit: I did it before midnight, about 23:45!
I wasn't aware it was in shops but someone on another thread mentioned they had a chance to check it out at John Lewis.
However having used the note 8 today I'm going to cancel the preorder and wait a few months for the price to drop. I've never usually got phones on release day and only ordered due to an issue on my other phone, which thankfully has been resolved.
I've gone round in a full circle! !
much better price-quality ratio.
Would anyone say theres a downside to Importing It from Korea? ebay.co.uk/itm…649
maxmix
Thanks!
I'm going to stop looking at note 8 deals now! Regretting not shopping around and jumping at the first call from network. :disappointed:
I don't get how it's worth almost a grand, it doesn't do anything more than a phone from 2/3 years ago.
I have however now also ordered this deal. This is too good to miss!
Did anyone return anything to Mobiles.co.uk? I am planning on sending back the S8 plus, unopened.
That's an incredible price for this device
Thanks anyway ; )
Don't want to pre order two!!
